Article on Nick/Joe/Matt Lee Family

Think the younger one may end better then the older 2..Awesome....Sounds similar to the Nevills brothers....

At the same age, Nick and Joe were well more advanced than Matt is now. Matt has gotten much better throughout his freshman year and is a legit threat to place at State (Top 8, no classes in IN). But Nick's only competition his freshman year was Stevan Micic, who he lost to in the State Semifinals. Nick won State his soph year and was undefeated before dropping the decision to Chad Red in the State Final last year.

Joe, lost early in his freshman year to the #1 ranked wrestler, then avenged that loss in the State Semifinals and lost in the Championship Match to Tommy Cash defending State Champ. Joe, lost by fall in the Sectional last year then walked through to the State Title. He is the strong favorite to win again this year.

Nick has the best national pedigree and Joe has had some success nationally as well, but Matt hasn't found that level of success yet.

Thanks for the info! I have a feeling you know each of them quite well and what you say is accurate. I'm not even sure how someone sitting in Pennsylvania could even make a determination on the youngest being the best of the three. Not much video out there of Matt let alone all 3 as freshman in high school. So, unless you have had a chance to see all three of these boys wrestle live as freshman, you'd certainly just be guessing.

That's not directed towards you btw. You calling the state championships State instead of States leads me to believe you're not from Pennsylvania. If I were to guess, I'd say you're probably one of the few ( if not the only one) that visits this board that has seen all three wrestle as freshman.

I don't know the family personally, but I know the Mater Dei program and have followed IN wrestling for many years. I've followed the Lee's pretty closely. Looking forward to seeing what they can bring to the big time at Penn State.

And another note, Nick has lost to guys before and come back to beat them. I noticed some comparisons in the Edinboro Open thread, specifically Kanen Storr and Carter Happel. Nick beat Storr and Happel last summer. I don't believe he's lost to Storr, but he has previously lost to Happel and Minnesota's Mitch McKee. In last summers run to the Fargo Junior National Title he avenged both losses before beating Storr in the finals.

Nick has wrestled just about everybody nationally. He lost to Pletcher 6-4 at FloNationals the summer before 8th grade and twice to Zahid Valencia 12-4 both times at Fargo before his freshman year in HS. He won a HS level pre-season tournament that has kids from 10 states, before his 7th grade year. So he won't be afraid to jump right in next year if that is what's asked of him.
