From my own anecdotal experience, I wrestled for the first time in my sophomore year of high school. When I came back to football in my junior year, I found I was much better at using my hands on defense (this was before you could use your hands on offense), both for initial contact and for leverage. It definitely made me a better football player. Now it would be a tremendous help on both sides of the ball. In the town I lived in for 28 years from 1986 to 2015, the high school football coach was dead set against his players wrestling. Very foolish.
On my high school wrestling team, a good portion of the lineup from about 145 up was football players or former football players.
