Articles for Thursday ...

The Morelli article really does a great job of explaining Cael's philosophy.

Also, sounds like the Pitt Detox is coming along well.

Good stuff:

"Just last year I had a lot of one-point matches and one takedown would really be the difference in the matches,'' Morelli said. "This summer I just really focused on taking a lot of shots in practice, even if I wasn't getting them all the time.

"I was trying to make more mistakes in practice just so I would learn from them. Wrestling that way in practice has translated to the mat.''

Sanderson wants his wrestlers to take risks at the risk of making mistakes. "I guess an example of that would be like waiting for that perfect time to take a shot because it's never going to be perfect,'' Morelli said.

"Maybe you're not in a tie-up you'd like to be in but you just go for a shot anyway in practice, and maybe it works out and you get that feeling that you can do it in the match. It's just taking risks and trying to find positions to score where you didn't think you could score.''

I like the practice philosophy. I jumped into wrestling in 10th grade after being the last cut from my junior high basketball team. Once I started, I realized if I was ever going to be good at takedowns, I'd have to take some lumps in practice trying to get better at them. It worked pretty well.
