Articles for Thursday

Not surprisingly, Martinez isn't lacking in confidence. In the Daily Illini article, he almost dares Jason to try to match his (Martinez's) energy and pace. Then there is the sidebar, where the paper's "Hidden Stat" is that Penn State has a 71-10-1 record under Cael Sampson. Gotta love student newspapers.

“If he tries to match my pace, it’s going to be an ugly, ugly match,” Martinez said....Love it!!! Wheres the bulletin board when you need one???

A little disappointing to hear the guys won the lip syncing contest and there's no video of the performance...

LOL, that's on the Collegian.

I watched the video expecting to see the wrestling team, and was also disappointed.

Must be a "Freudian Slip" reference to the Biblical Sampson especially considering that the writer gets Mr. Sanderson's name correct in the body of the article. Was struck by Zane Richards comments as well which pretty much echo what I-Mar and what their non-ranked, self-described "ultra-athletic" 149 lb'er said....e.g., we're going to take the action to them and get to our offense before they can get to their offense - keep them on the defensive. IOW, they are going to out "Pennsylvania Style" The Pennsylvania State University? Sure does sound like this is what the Illini coaching staff is preaching to their team. All I can say is "good luck with that". But will say that I will take my hat off to them if they truly wrestle this way at every weight, such as 149, and not just select match-ups for the dual, because this is the correct spirit of how each individual match is supposed to be wrestled - every wrestler is supposed to wrestle to win and it is supposed to be illegal for any individual wrestler not to wrestle in this fashion, but instead intentionally stall in an effort to keep the team dual as close as possible and keep PSU wrestlers from bonusing, while never attempting to actually win their specific match where they are badly out-gunned. Will be interesting to see if they are true to their word on an EVERY MATCH basis imho.
