Salt Lake Tribune: Utah native Cael Sanderson almost unbeatable as wrestler, Penn State coach
(a pretty interesting article)

Onward State: A Tale Of Two Dynasties
(not quite what you might expect from the headline)

Daily Collegian: Penn State wrestling's Zain Retherfrod and Nico Megaludis earn athletes of the week honors

Daily Collegian: Losses for Penn State wrestling's Jason Nolf and Bo Nickal leave mark

The Maneater: J'den Cox learns from semifinal loss, has fun winning second championship

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: After a stop in New York, NCAA wrestling will return here in 2017

NCAA.com: Top wrestlers read inspirational letters to themselves

Lincoln Journal Star: Manning looks back, looks ahead with Husker wrestling

True Wrestling: Takeaways for the NCAA's Championships 2016
(pretty interesting analysis. Some generalities in the takeaways that fans of other programs may not like, but not a bad analysis.)

Ethan Kasales makes an inexcusable mistake as sports journalist supposedly focusing on PSU Sports in his freaking opening line.....his supposed "facts" are incorrect in regards to Cael Sanderson (e.g., more lazy journalism from "Onward State" in support of their assigned agendas demonstrating that their writers are better propagandists to their assigned tasks than actual "professional journalists" -- that or I never realized ISU is a branch campus of PSU....). Cael Sanderson has NOT HAD his "first eight seasons" until next March, March 2017 following the NCAA Wrestling Tournament in St. Louis. So the amount of hardware Cael actually brings home after his "first eight seasons" may be even more impressive than Mr. Kasales is attempting to imply with his factually incorrect first sentence. Why am I not surprised coming from the supposed-journalists (who are actually report whatever self-serving, made-up-facts we feel like propagandists) at "Onward State"?

FRTT, ease up a bit. Mistakes are made by journalists, by coaches, and by refs, etc. They are all human.

The Lincoln Journal Star article indicated that Tyler Berger lost 3-2 "to No. 8 Nick Brascetta of Vermont in the heartbreak round." Brascetta actually wrestles for Virginia Tech, and attended high school in Ohio, but when I read the article I noticed the mistake, smiled to myself, and continued on. Most mistakes, or even differences of opinion, do not warrant long tirades from you.

Note that I added another article -- the last one in the post -- which many of you may find interesting.

Yea, that's pretty amusing that the article says the identical things about Sorenson and Burak that I have consistently been saying since B1Gs.....I'd rather watch paint-dry or grass-grow than those two zero-offense-against-quality-opposition, defense-only, exclusively look to counter, put you to sleep dancing-bears, eeerrrrr......I mean "wrestlers". :(

A sports journalist dedicated to covering "Penn State Sports" thinking Cael has been at PSU eight years.....or failing to research the correct number of years he was there.....or the rags "senior editor" not catching the obvious error....seems pretty glaring if you ask me especially when the topic of the article was specifically about PSU Wrestling, Cael, PSU WVB and Russ Rose.... Screwing up your facts on the specific topic of your assigned editorial??? Seems pretty sloppy if you ask me.

But according to NoVa Lion (and his awesome Iowa friends), I'm an "embarrassment to PSU wrestling" for saying the EXACT SAME THING about Sorenson, Burak and Iowa wrestling for the last several weeks since the completion of the b1g shiz tourney (oh yea, I also know nothing about wrestling according to his good buddy AzChump, but it's funny how my attribution of Sorenson, Burak and Iowa's boring, un-dynamic style correlates IDENTICALLY to what this recognized "Wrestling Expert" says....weird that, clearly the expert needs to read AzChump's recommended wrestling books to educate himself....ROTFLMFAO!!).

Also weird how he forgot to include those legendary stallers Nico Megalidus and Zane Retherford in the section of his article lambasting boring, zero-offense, rather watch grass grow, OIF ("only in folk") styles....instead he choose to use Sorenson, Burak and Iowa in general as a team to make his point - go figure???

Oh boy, that True Wrestling article is going to cause some of our Hawkeye brothers to foam at the mouth!

Hey, I take offense to this post, I was the one that said you didn't know anything about wrestling, why you giving all the credit to AZ Chief? And I only said that because, well, you don't know much about wrestling.

And as for the article, good stuff. It's obviously "fan" lit, I means it's one guy with a website and it's his opinions. Some I agree with and some is simply catering to the intended audience.

And the vast majority of it is you not understanding the writer's analysis because you don't know squat about "real wrestling" and what "real wrestling" is truly all about (which, the author is 100% correct, has nothing to do with the "styles" exhibited by Sorenson, Burak and the Snore-brigade) despite you self-declaring yourself an expert on the topics....[insert the laugh track]. He's not catering to anyone or anything moron, he's giving his analysis as to what he LEARNED VIA OBSERVATION at the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Tournament.

Hey its the interweb, how can anonymous person get embarrassed? Just get a new handle and get back in the game.

Oh okay, you sure about that? Listen, you can't take my analysis of you, "knowing nothing about wrestling" and then add the word "real" in there and say it back to me, that's just lame, and proves you really don't know much about wrestling. Plus, I never said I was an expert at anything, so, you just made that "self-declaring yourself..." up out of thin air, something a wrestling novice might do.

So for the article, you are wrong yet again, what you claim as "analysis as to what he LEARNED VIA OBSERVATION" (not sure why you used caps on that last part) this is just another way of saying his opinion. He is a PA guy who wrestled and coached in PA, which explains the PA bias, but hey, that's okay, its well written and its his opinion and, like I said, some of it I agree with. But what makes me view this as more of a piece written for the PA audience is that he spends as many words telling everyone why Iowa is now content to settle for 10th place, as he does praising PSU. Actually he uses more words to give negative views of Iowa than he does talking about OSU/tOSU and VT. He knows what makes PSU fans happy and he is giving to them, otherwise he would have spent more time talking about how PSU took down the defending champ tOSU. Come on Hanzy, don't be so thick. By the way "A Season On The Mat" is a great book and would be a great start educatin' you up.

Yea, that "Pennsylvania bias" is a bias toward "real wrestling" driven by actual "wrestling skill" recognized by avid wrestling enthusiasts worldwide not that gimmicky, crap style oriented toward gaming bull$hit folk rules practiced by Sorenson, Burak and the Triple-B Brigade (The Brands' Brothers Boredom Brigade). Tommy's hamster Dance is more entertaining than that impossible-to-watch crap.

Oh Hanzy, you're the best. Your posts are almost illegible, which is hard to understand because it's typed, not written, but none the less, good stuff.

Author didn't say Iowa was content with 10th place. He said Iowa was content with top 5 (I disagree), and there's risk of Iowa sliding to top 10 (conceivable but not imminent).

First recognizing there are near- and long-term threats: Nebraska and Missouri have gained a lot of ground. Rutgers and Michigan are showing signs of life. Arizona State, Fresno State, Illinois, and Pitt can all draw from strong talent pools. (Pitt -- now THERE is a school content with its status.)

College wrestling is undergoing a marketplace disruption -- think Clayton Christensen's work at Harvard Business School. Iowa is in the role of the disrupted, the one-time dominant player that was slow to react to changing conditions and fell behind. (Minnesota even more so.)

Iowa can certainly return to past glory, but needs to understand the disruptive factors and adapt. What they can't do is merely double down and work harder. (And, no, I would never advocate firing Brands -- he's an elite coach who's great for the sport.)
