As for that #1 Michigan defense...

On TMs next to last TD, the ENTIRE UM LBACKER corps went left after SB and Trace scooted in untouched.

Reminded of an old saying with a slight twist. Don Brown's body lies a-mouldering in the grave. JoeMo out schemed him badly. Great game all around and the OL did a much better job after the bye week.
Michigan has a very good defense. They pretty much bottled Barkley up after the 1st quarter. PSU just has too many weapons.

P.S. Hamilton continues to do a great job catching the ball in traffic.

P.S.S. Lavert Hill is going to be good.

Maybe, but Hamilton owned Hill. He dictated everything. Hill may end up being great, but I'll take Hamilton every time

Didn't hear the names Hurst and Gary very much at all. That tells me that our OL did damn good. Don't forget, this defense is littered with 4&5* talent. Young perhaps, but that is the case for everyone more often than having 10 senior starters.

Kudos to Moorhead on the scheme adjustments and wrinkles this week. The pulling guard took Wolverine LBs out of the play multiple times tonight. Good push on the runs, and eventually even Michigan had to key on Barkley to slow him down. Trace then made em pay with his best rushing game of the year.

And the slant was unstoppable tonight. Hamilton made whoever they put on him look silly tonight. Thompkins drew Hill quite a bit tonight. Johnson with tough catches to set the tone. Gesicki as well, plus a tipped pass (announcers called it over throw) away from a huge gain.

Sanders is going to have a huge year next year. He is tailor made for this offense. He puts his head down and grinds on those inside runs. Maybe not as explosive as Barkley, but he will eliminate a lot of TFL plays.

Senior vs. Freshman.
And next year he will have more receivers from PSU to deal with, and the year after. That's what recruiting does for you. ARob left and Godwin stepped up. Godwin left and Hamilton stepped up. Someone will step up next year.

JoeMo was still one step ahead. Yea they took away SB to a certain extent but he had McSorley shred them. Choose your poison approach.

Let us pray that Joe-Mo will want to stay and try to coach a National Champion offense. The guy is an offensive genius and he will continue to work his mastery as he acquires more weapons. He will have several schools courting him after this season.

This, along with a continually improving D, is why we might end up holding up that Dr Pepper trophy at the end of the season.

Hopefully none of the openings are attractive to him...Tennessee and UCLA may not be enough. Nebraska is going to hire Frost.

Pay the man. Unless being head cheese is his goal. If it is, sadly nothing we can do. Don't think a HCIW denotation will work.

Wrong again. Hill is a sophomore.
OK, Sr vs. Soph.

I said that he's going to be good and I stand by that. It's amazing how he was great when he considered PSU but now he's not so great to some.

UM even bottled 26 up when he didn't have the ball, like on all 3 of #9's TD runs. But I guess they can claim that moral victory of containing SB after the first quarter.

Like I said, PSU has too many weapons. I still think UM has a very good defense.

Exactly! bdgan is one of the message board experts who ensured us that there was no way PSU could be effective on the ground against UM. So after 5 rushing TDs he'll just keep moving the goalposts. Bottled up Barkley? Well, he had 3 TDs and single handedly dictated to UM how they would play defense, which, turns out, wasn't anywhere near as good as PSU could play offense. So I guess I hope that every team from here on out bottles up Barkley just as well.

I think they have the best defense that has ever stepped on a college football field, nah, ANY field. And the fact that PSU eviscerated them tells us that our offense is kinda good.

Brown thought what I thought, which was that Hurst and Gary would live in our backfield. Wrong. Fries and the guards really stepped up. The lack of penetration allowed us to dictate everything, as opposed to them.

He didn't really have any answers. In the second half, they were even playing a three man front and having their stud d-linemen two gap. Pretty crazy when you consider that they're supposed to be the strength of the #1 defense in the country. This is what getting completely shredded looks like.

Devin Bush was spying Barkley from the start. With Barkley constantly in motion, looked like he started to tire (saw hands on hips) early. The TV timeouts and INT really helped UM.

UM has an excellent defense with some excellent players. They were outschemed and some were worn down early.
Meaning they’re not as good as advertised or the PSU offense is better than advertised. The consensus was that the PSU offense was going to have a very difficult, if not impossible, time succeeding against Michie’s vaunted defense. The result proved otherwise.

If you were honest you would represent my statements accurately. I said that PSU couldn't beat Michigan by pounding the ball between the tackles. I said they would have to spread the field and beat them with athleticism. Get Barkley & Gesicki wide to force
Maybe, but your boys didn't show it last night.
"Your boys"???

I'm not sure why it has to be that the Michigan defense sucks vs. Michigan has a very good D but PSU ran a great scheme and has too many weapons.

Difficult - yes.
Impossible - no

PSU was a 9 pt favorite so people certainly didnt think impossible. I think the over/under was 42 so people were expecting about 26 points from the PSU offense. Do yes, I think the opinion of the offense is rising.

I don’t know why you keep on talking about Michie’s defense. Last night they weren’t a factor. PSU had their way with them. Gary and Hurst were muzzled. I couldn’t tell you the name of one Michie LB cause they weren’t a factor. And who gives a rat’s ass why and how. They got their collective asses kicked.

Here’s hoping that the PSU offense continues executing the way they did last night. OSU won’t be a picnic.

I see a whole lot of praise of UM's defense and little praise of PSU's offense in your posts. Go back and read your first post in this thread about UM's great defense and how they shut down Barkley after the 1st quarter, as if somehow the 1st quarter doesn't count. Your act is well known. Just own it. You and Ranger Dan get all upset when someone calls you out. You should just have waited til Monday or Tuesday to complain about the PSU offense/praise the UM defense. Doing so less than 12 hours after PSU eviscerated the UM defense just invites challeneges.

Exactly, and much better said than I could. This morning is not the time to be talking about how good the UM defense is, especially by presumed PSU fans.

You should go back and read them. I picked PSU and said tjey have too many weapons. You're correct only that I didn't expect 42 pts.

Whatever. Can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. But why someone would spend as much time on a PSU message board as you do when it's obvious you derive little to no pleasure from following PSU is just odd to me. Don't bother responding. Not wasting anymore time with you. Try to enjoy your day.

I think OSU has a very good defense too but probably not a lot better than Michigan. Not as strong but more athletic. It will be intetesting to see what scheme the staff comes up with next week.

We still havent seen a lot of Gesicki. Throw it high and let him go get it, especially in the red zone.

Speaking of Lavert Hill, check out the classy photo of him on Onward State after the game. I’d link it but I’m on my phone and am technologically deficient. Happy he isn’t one of us.

What was Hill doing? I tried looking for the photo, but don’t know what article it was linked to... or is there just a section for photos? I really just stay on this site unless people link something.

48, 71, 80, 94,115, 122. They are the total offense ratings of the 6 teams that OSU beat and built their defensive resume on. While they lost to OU, whose offense is #2, suffice it to say their defense crapped the bed in that game.
