...no one wants us there. O.K., not quite no one, but the majority of football fans and members of the esteemed media don't like us. We are not a darling. Many of them still believe we should have been shut down and should still be shut down. While their bias and ignorance is annoying, I smile as I watch our program rise up and continue to do things the right way as it always has. I smile as this happens while the majority of fans and members of the esteemed media don't want it to happen. It is a great source of pride to see our program thrive on and off the field, as it always has. We are Success With Honor.

We never folded back in 2011 and 2012. We continued to succeed, and we got better. We continue to get better. Think about how fortunate we have been to have quality coaches, quality athletes, and quality people around this program, for decades. Let them hate us. We'll just continue succeeding with honor.

We Are!

But is anyone a darling ? I'm sure a lot of folk hate ND and Bama for example, maybe more than hate a PSU.
I'm guessing people just think they're guys are better compared to disliking us.

I am going to disagree - from what I have watched, read and listened to, the MSM has no issue with PSU "being there". I am sure the reasons are as varied as the person who makes the statement, but by and large - have not heard anyone upset that PSU is "there". There may be some criticisms, but that goes with the territory. However generally speaking, I don't see that "hate" that you seem to hold onto... I will only hazard a guess that some of the reasons could be

1. PSU plays really good football, even if we, as internet coaches, don't always like the mechanics of it.
2. CJF has made the program under his own identity, without really sacrificing the core values of the program (long braided hair notwithstanding)
3. I believe MSM would like to see some fresh blood in the CFP - and we have been close before.
4. Given the combination of youth and skill level of the squad, as well as the recruits coming in, the MSM recognizes that PSU may very well be on the verge of getting to that next level and maintaining it.

I get that the "they all hate us" comment is part of your shtick, just like tongs, lattes and scones. But, i don't think that's the case anymore, although I understand it makes for good internet fodder . Perhaps fanbases hate us, but that doesn't bother me.

But hey, you do you. It's your thing.

I AGREE with your disagree!!! Folks hate Bama because they are so successful. Fans hate ND because its ND, and that one a pretty historic hate, and so it goes. No biggie as, Sticks and Stones...!

Wow no one wants PSU there. C’mon man. You think that aren’t lots of fans around the country who don’t want to see PSU knock off haughty OSU?

The Sandusky thing is pretty much in the rear view mirror. Some people will hang onto it...but they are generally types who "hate" PSU for other reasons.

Our own local media picks against us more often than not. btn picks against us more often than not. espn mostly ignores us. I still see more vitriol expressed towards Penn State online than towards the other programs at the top of the polls. Does any other b1g program get the share of bad calls that we do? We aren’t going to win any popularity contests, except maybe for the whiteout.

But yeah, SCHTICK. .

Agree with everything you said, the only thing bothering me in the least is the spitting incident last weekend and the alleged eye gouging incident the week before. These types of things are unacceptable for a PSU team IMO. I do have confidence that franklin will address these issues.

The spitting thing is undeniable as it was caught on video and Shelton apologized for it. But the eye gouge thing is just stupid. In that mass of humanity, how would Patterson or anyone have known who was gouging his eyes? And how would the would-be gouger have known he was gouging Patterson's eyes? It was stupid when it came out last week and it's still stupid.

There’s no point discussing the eye-gouge thing because there’s no evidence of it.

Shelton made a poor decision in the heat of the moment. However, as you said, he apologized. Plus, Franklin took a strong stance on the issue. This was an out-of-character mistake by a young man, not something representative of who we are.

It will be interesting to watch Shelton’s playing time against Minnesota.

My issue is that the mainstream sports media’s attitude toward PSU fans seems to be “we are okay with you and wish you the best, as long as you don’t question our narrative that JoePa covered up child rape”.

Don't forget that back in 1994 the majority of sports reports in Bigten country voted for Nebraska as national champs....and that we were not welcomed into the Bigten with open arms, in the first place. How much has really changed?
