If you could sit down today (like this afternoon) with our AG candidate Josh Shapiro on how he could help in our fight to correct the PSU narrative - what would it be?

Leave a constructive comment here or you can reach me on Twitter @wensilver

I value all opinions & will slide them under his nose.

Thx

After what happened to Kane, why would anyone in their right mind want to touch the Second Mike stuff?

Im not saying that it's right but it appears that some pretty heavy hitters are sitting on the lid.

How do you hold state agencies responsible for their mistakes? So many mistakes from adoption, CYS, to local law enforcement yet PSU takes the blame. How can this narrative be changed and what can the AG's office do to correct the narrative.
2. How can the AG remain neutral in a sea of Dem and Rep corruption? Will they toe the line or try to change the perception of Pa as a corrupt state to the core?

I don't think he has or should have a place in a fight to correct any narrative.

If he digs for truth and goes after the guilty, then he's doing his job- and let the chips fall where they may. I happen to believe that the end result of that would change the narrative, but that isn't his job and certainly should not be part of his thought process.

Tailoring actions to achieve predetermined results is more of a Louis Freeh kind of activity.

Ask the "trick" question:
Pennsylvania senior deputy attorney general Joseph E. McGettigan III outside of the Centre County Courthouse April 5, 2012 Calls Second Mile a 'Victim Factory' for Sandusky.

1. Was the findings of investigation of TSM ever reported to the public?

2. Why do you believe there was"no" investigation into TSM?

3. Senator Lisa Baker was point person on the 'knee jerk' reaction that lead to 20 plus corrective resolutions to improve the state Child Protection Services. The foundation of the resolutions were based on the actions of Sandusky and PSU.
Was The Second Mile also mentioned directly as a player in the Senates resolution?

I'm with Step. How's it possible that no investigation (that we know of) of TSM occurred. What procedures and policies did they have in place to prevent abuse from happening? Were they followed? Much like a NTSB investigation of a plane crash, TSM should be investigated to learn what happened and try to prevent recurrence.

I don't believe we'll get any action from the state AG, no matter who gets elected. If the feds stepped in and started a in-depth investigation, which is very doubtful, we may see some movement. The bottom line is Corbett and his cronies got away with playing God at the expense of a small group of innocent men and the reputation of a great university. I hope I live longer than the son-of-a-bitch so I can piss on his grave someday.

If the ultimate goal is to make sure procedures and safeguards are in place to protect PA children and youth from potential abusers this is exactly where the focus should be. To the extent changes are made at that time you can begin to correct the false narrative that this was all PSU's responsibility.

Sorry histone, Lehman played Monday night, a little confused this morning. Left work yesterday morning to accompany my 90 year old mother to the hospital. She had dizzy spells and I didn't return home until about 9pm. I hadn't eaten since Monday nights supper, grabbed an awful McD's burger on the way home, and tried but couldn't get to sleep until early hours of this morning. After work today, will go home and sleep.

Investigate why CYS (state & local) did not identify Sandusky as a pedophile.
Investigate why Second Mile was not investigated.
Determine whether Second Mile administrators were aware of Sandusky.
Investigate roles of 11/09/11 BoT members and the Second Mile.

Drop all charges against C/S/S with prejudice.

Just have him say that Joe Paterno did all that he was permitted, by law, to do. That there are no moral obligations, only legal obligations. Unfortunately, this was never expressed by Linda Kelly, Fina, or McGettigan. Indeed, F and M left that open on their 60 Minutes Interview. While they said there was no evidence of a cover-up, they allowed Keteyian to deflect to the moral obligation aspect. The old "he should have done more" argument.

I understand that this is not all about Joe Paterno, but he is the "shiny object" in this fiasco.

Three questions,
1 we know the leadership of TSM was aware of 2001 [not sure about 1998]. Why has no one looked into what they [TSM] did to investigate /prevent JS from interacting with young kids?
2. We know in 1998 that law enforcement was aware of that episode and also was aware of other kids JS had been with. Is there any acceptable reason why they did not pursue talking with other children?
3. In his opinion what was the correct procedure for JVP to follow with the MM report?

Awesome - thanks. I'll copy these down, slide these comments under his nose this afternoon.

Feel free to add in any more thoughts as the day goes by.

Thank you!

I don't want any AG with an agenda. I do want an AG that uses common sense, logic, and is consistent.

In terms of PSU I would want to know why SM wasn't investigated (or at least nothing made public).

I'd like to know why CSS are charged but Mr. McQueery (sp?), Dr. Dranov, Dr. Raykieovitz (sp?), etc were not charged.

If we are to fully believe the PA OAG account (that MM told the most graphic details to all involved), then why are only 3 of the 6 charged and not all 6?

I'd also like to know his opinions on "stretching" the law. Things like charging people retroactively for events by using a law that didn't exist at the time of the 'event', changing dates for statute of limitations, etc. General 'playing fast and loose' with laws to stretch them to the AGs advantage.

Does he believe the remaining charges against the PSU 3 are legitimate and does he plan to pursue them if elected?

What will happen to the Porngate report if he's elected?

All good questions. But generally speaking, would the new AG think it's acceptable to have charges pending against someone for five years?? At what point would they decide enough is enough and the right to a speedy trial was violated?? I get the fact some delays are due to filings by the defendants but five years worth can't all be blamed on them. The AG has a duty to be efficient and ensure justice is served within a reasonable period. Corbett dragged his feet with Sandusky and look at how that worked out.

And if he agrees that JVP should have done more... press him to define what exactly "more" is.

Thanks for the input guys - it was a productive meeting. Josh hears our concerns:
  • Second Mile & the lack of any credible public investigation.
  • Ex parte communications in the former OAG & what that means to citizens.
  • Conduct of the PSU Board - their fiduciary failures & possible criminal conduct.
  • Loss of trust in the AG's office by the average person paying any attention.
  • Media narrative on Joe & football actually squelching any conversation & real change in child protection in our state.
  • The smearing of reputations & the maligning of innocent parties.
IMO Rafferty has been a ghost on these issues. The most important thing now is to hold these candidates feet to the fire, and get out & vote.

Wendy, is Shapiro your choice for AG?

Actually yes. I've sat with him 3 times to chat over the past year.

So FWIW - if he can take the time to meet with a nobody like me & discuss issues - which is a HELLUVA lot more time than anyone from PSU admin has done in the past 4 plus years - that says something to me.
I agree!
