Askren discusses Nico's takedown on Gilman

That nico scramble clearly happens because he was a top 5 P4P recruit coming out of high school 5 years ago. Had absolutely nothing to do with coaching or the structure of Cael/staffs practices.

Or it was just lady luck.

Or gillman had a momentary soft heart for nicos journey

Everyone who knows the sport, knows that Cael coaches his guys to do exactly what you saw Nico do, and do those things in the final matches when it counts. Penn State wrestlers are uniquely coached to be able to score points in unusual scrambles, and to score points in the OTHER wrestlers favorite positions, and will do things that opponents are not ready for in those same positions. What you saw, was not an accident or a crazy scramble: Nico made about 5 moves right in sequence. Frankly, Gilman was fortunate that he was able to avoid back points, because that was where the sequence was heading until the very last moment.
