No Seth Nevills. I would have thought he’d get an at large bid with his #16 ranking considering how strong our conference is. Wonder if Cael pulled his name from consideration due to his injury...if that’s possible.
If Seth dropped out of the coaches ranking (entirely possible given he has no quality wins, but I'm not sure how probable), he did not meet criteria to be considered for an at-large. To be considered for at-large you must meet 2 or the following 6 criteria:
Top 33 RPI - not enough matches to qualify
Top 33 Coaches ranking - ?
.700 winning pct vs. D1 - NO (9-4)
.700 winning pct at weight - YES
One win vs AQ at weight - NO
One place out of AQ at placement tourney - NO
So Seth meets only one out of the two required without a top 33 coach's ranking.
Even with a top 33 CR, Seth was up against it considering that 40% of the criteria that would be used to compare him against other candidates he gets a zero (conference placement, RPI, wins vs. AQ). Considering that his winning pct was around equal or less than all four guys who got an at-large (Sullivan, Ihry, Knighton-Ward, Bagoly) and his common opponents was around equal to all except Knighton-Ward, and no H-T-Hs against any of those guys, you are left with the coaches ranking for Seth to gain any ground on candidates who have RPI, conference placement or an AQ win. Coaches ranking only counts as 15% of the criteria used to measure guys against each other.
Seth needed to get finish the B1G tourney which likely would have gotten him qualified for RPI and probably an AQ win there. Also, a win over Traub in the dual would have helped immensely. He didn't and his non-selection is justified according to criteria.
