At what point where you pretty much resigned to defeat? *

Resigned? Not really. It looked bleak a couple of times but I was at Iowa last year. As long as McSorley is out there it has to look a lot bleaker first.

If the App State running back didn't run that ball into the end zone, I think they could have run out the clock and kicked a field goal. I was very relieved when he scored. The couple of minutes before that I thought we were sunk.

I was just about there before the AppSt. back scored. But after he scored, 1:28 left with timeouts and McSorley, there's hope.

They were also about 6 yards from losing it in regulation. That timeout at 3rd and 4 was critical (and having the timeout available was critical) I think without that timeout PSU wouldn't have been able to discuss the coverage and AppSt would have gotten the 6 yards they needed to put that FG in range. The timeout let them get people aligned, and then Donovan Johnson made one of the most important defensive plays of the game to stay on the slot receiver.

Exactly. In my mind, the game was over once they got in easy field goal range. When they scored the TD I was actually happy.

At the 3min I thought we where dead man standing. Hamlers KO return almost gave me a heart attack after getting sat there for 3 seconds . It was a good return, but I assure you he got reamed out and will get reamed out again this afternoon.

Reamed out by whom? The guy was spectacular and he was the reason we were able to get it into OT in the first place.

I work with a guy who played on the Appy State team that beat Michigan. After they scored to go up 38-31, I was getting the congratulatory text ready. But I said the same thing yesterday that I said when Iowa scored -- "there's a lot of clock left". Trace never quits. And he's smart enough to see things in the defense that allowed him to check into the right play on the 4th down play.

I agree, I’m also glad they tried the field goal instead of going for it on fourth down.

It was the deep pass after we tied it up that gave me the sunken feeling. Trace is unreal.

What? At some point you have to let your players try to make plays.

Somewhere between when the RB crossed the first down line and when he tightroped the sideline to make the endzone with around 2 min. left. If #17 tackles him it's likely over. If he steps out (and I was afraid replay would have shown that), it's also most likely over. When he scored I turned to my son and said, "thank God!"

When McSorley released the 4th down pass with defenders on his face. I thought it would be a 50/50 wounded duck, pass/punt.

Had the DB stayed in Polk's face on that clutch 4th down pass, he may have defended the play. Anyone know why he backed off 5-10 yards? We only needed 2 yards for the 1st down. Glad he did, and can't thank him enough!

Judging on things that was the best thing that could have happened. Prior to that I thought we were sunk. Run some clock, kick a field goal and Jack Nicholson leaves the building. I wonder how many times the App coaches have thought about that possession? I believe I would of directed my guys to keep the ball in the kickers preferred angle and don't you dare score, because there is a young man over there that wants the ball one more time. Yep, Mr. McSorley. Defensively I would have told our squad to dummy it up and leave them score. Like the infield fly rule. They were already in field goal range. Anyhow it could have went either way and I am So HAPPY we persevered for the win.

31-31, Gilliken in to punt. Booms a 32 yarder. Next one was better though. 37 yards.

Anyone on the staff with eyesight and a functioning brain. His decision may have worked out (that time), but it was still the wrong decision under the circumstances.

I thought we were toast when they were in chip shot range. I actually called for PSU to let him score a play or two before the td (although I understood It would be a tough pill to swallow for a coach to order that)...

And yes, Hamler should get his ass chewed for bringing that ball out. It worked out, but not smart.

And yes, I was quite happy when they elected to kick the FG rather than going for it, I thought that was a very bad move on the coaches part. The chances of kicking a FG that distance were small, chance of converting (especially based on the 4th quarter) was much greater.

Honesty with Trace, never.

This is how I felt in all honesty - flashbacks to Iowa kept me positive. I think the first time I really thought we might lose was on our final drive when it was 4th and 2 with 1:06 left before McSorley hit Polk on a route similar to the one he missed him on the previous play....clutch catch like Hamilton was in our final drive against Iowa.

We did the same thing against tOSU a few years back--and it was rather close. So I get why.

Standing at the cash register of Lebanese taverna, when I looked down at phone and saw the game tied at 31.
