Well it wasn't pretty, infact it was down right fugly but a win is a win.
Major kudos to the fans who were able to attend and stay. I was impressed with the turnout.
I was surprised to see the band take the field. I was equally surprised to see the fireworks, albeit I thought they were really lame. Save it for the big games and not after kicking a field goal.
As for the game I don't know what to think anymore. There are some serious problems with this team and I can't use weather, youth and injuries for excuses anymore.
Many have issues with Donovan and his offense (and I do as well) but I have a bigger issue with the O-line. Yes I know Nelson is out but c'mon the majority of these guys have been together for over 16 games. They should be able to pick up the edge rusher and move a seriously under sized Army D-line off the ball to be able to pick up a third and 2 or 3.
Donovan though does not escape this nor does Gattis or Rahne. We are falling dangerously close to the Temple format of having Hack in the gun and checking in, out then in then out of plays. Its the same thing I saw in Temple and its happening again. Like Jack Ham said sometimes you can out smart yourself. Just run the damn play. Which brings me to my next point. Do we not have a "code word" that Hack can say so the Line and Center know to snap the ball at that point? I mean we could have caught Army with 12 men on the field at least 3 times with a quick snap. It really is a mess run up the middle on first down, then either have a motion penalty or allow the defense a free shot on Hack or a RB. Its a joke and NW, Michigan, MSU and tOSU must be salivating over the film they see. Do we even have a Screen play in the play book and if we do can Hack complete it? I have my doubts on both counts.
Hack is what he is and thats not much in this offense.
Why can't we at least use some of the stuff we did in the Bowl Game?
We need Barkley back healthy in a bad way.
The defense had its moments but even they were substandard yesterday.
And here I will use injuries as a valid excuse. We had a freshman in at LBr and DE trying to defend against an offense that is very, very difficult. But I was a little disappointed that Army had so much success with the FB up the middle. Even I know thats the key to the triple option.
Hopefully we can get Bell and Allen back healthy next week.
Right now I don't see 6 wins on this schedule if we continue to play the way we are.
And after reading Ryan's article where Franklin and some were out recruiting last night is really worrisome.
Franklin better worry about right now because he won't be here in 2018 at the current pace.
Hand, Donovan, Rahne and Franklin you are on the clock. Get it fixed.
