We're all well aware of the struggles of our men's basketball team, but I not only like our well balanced scoring; but believe this balance will help players like Lamar Stevens and Mike Watkins.

Lamar is struggling right now and is trying to find himself. He's lost some confidence and has struggled in deep in the paint. Many of Lamar's shots are being blocked, or being defended rather physically by the opposing teams. Nobody is giving Lamar a pass on anything. Welcome to the BIG10. Many of his in close plays are fouls, but he's not getting the calls right now. It's been an uphill battle for Stevens. He'll have to improve his game before the officials start showing him some respect, and start calling some fouls for him.

Our balance should help Lamar develop slowly though. This year is a learning year for Lamar. I think that you'll see a much smarter, tougher, better scoring Lamar next year. Chambers should definitely see some big improvement in his game next year. I think you'll see Lamar Stevens in close game improve next year, and he'll learn how to finish with the ball in closely.

With Mike Watkins, anyone with one eye (not just two) can see his talent. But he's still raw, and still has not quite learned to have the confidence in at least one or two go to shots. He needs to learn a couple of go to shots, where he can easily score. Julian Moore is helping Mike develop slowly by playing some solid ball and by taking some big minutes. Mike Watkins is another player that should see great improvements next year. He has all of the physical tools already. He's already establishing himself as a premiere rebounder and shot blocker.

I like our balanced scoring. On any given day, this team could have Shep, Payton or Tony Carr lead the team in scoring. And can expect some quality points from Josh Reaves and Terrance Samuel. This balance should help our younger players. There should be some interesting basketball the rest of the conference play and into the BIG tournament. Let's see what happens.
