I have been a Phillies fan since Cal Abrams was thrown out at the plate leading to Phillies being swept in the 1950 World Series. Still a fan looking for some trade talk opinion. Pirates are in trouble and Skenes seems unhappy. Phils trade Painter top 5 prospect in all of baseball and possibly #1 pitching prospect, Abel who just beat Skenes and Miller a top-rated infielder; in return Phils receive Skenes and Bednar. Pirates get cheap just about major league ready pitching talent plus highly rated young, minor league ss/3b, all cheap which seems to be the byword for the Pirates. Phils ship three highly rated prospects, one who already debuted besting Skenes and decimate their farm system. Pirates will lose Skenes anyway. Just a thought, Phils still have Crawford and Tait in their system,

Doesn’t sound like pirates will trade him but would think cubs and Mets would have plenty to offer

Just saw a panel discussion about trading Skenes and the consensus was it doesn’t make sense. Trading for prospects is a crapshoot. The Pirates may get back a few serviceable big leaguers which won’t help them contend anyway. Everyone thought they should keep Skenes and trade him closer to when he becomes a free agent as you keep a player of his caliber you can pay less than market value. Of course this being the Pirates, his arm will probably fall off just before it makes sense to trade.
