I read the reports of how well Bates and Gonzo specifically are doing. In run blocking you have to move people. They say Gonzo takes on double teams and creates space. That is the space you need for your RB's to run thru we have not created.
My point is, and what I liked to know is Bates and Gonzo should easily be better than Gaia, Dowery, Mahon , etc... at guard. What I'd like to know our Bates and Gonzo significantly better. It certainly sounds like Gonzo is. How many times have you heard of Gaia or Dowery create space, or take on doubles.
If those two are as good as I hope, that will go a long way in are running game next year. Because the second half of the season teams just took away Barkley like they did with Fournette at LSU and we struggled.
Menet is going to be great. But people cant seem to realize you cant play Tackle at 280lbs. In one off season he'll be up to 300lb plus, and starting with Bates and Gonzo and who knows who else but those three will be the base of what could finally be a good line.
Now I'm reading on this other thread that maybe use Menet as a guard his first year?
