Bearcat open

Was told last week some of the guys would be attending. Others kept an eye on the registrations and were able to post who was signed up for the Clarion Open. Probably happen that way again. I'd guess Wednesday or so...but if I hear before that, will post.

Sounds like a good question for the coaches show. :D

I went a few years back and had a great time. IIRC the whole team + a number of redshirts competed. I got to watch Taylor, Ruth, Jordan, Zain, Smash, and others practically from mat side. I got to mingle with some of the kids and their families in the stands, and they couldn't have been nicer. If all that wasn't enough there was a McZiggy sighting as he was competing with Finger Lakes.:D

I sure hope Penn St sends a lot of guys, Cornell usually sends a large chunk of their roster, and the home school has some really good wrestlers this year as well. I usually catch some sneaky good matches here.

There are limitations on how many we can send and pay for. Believe the maximum is 6. If we send more it is considered a competition date. However, I think that if the wrestlers pay their own way we can send as many as we want. However, I think the chances of any of the starters going is less than zero.

I'm not expecting any starters, but wouldn't be surprised to see some young guys who may not be starting at the beginning of the season, but could by seasons end. Mark Hall was a great example of this a few years ago. I was able to stand matside for what became his first official match!

Correct. At 7 participants, an event becomes a Competition Date, if they are paid for by the university.

After hearing Cael's presser, wondering if Teasdale and or Teske makes the trip? Maybe Berge at 57 too? Hmmm

A rule clarification, just fyi...wrestlers have a competition limit, same as the team...16 Competition Dates. Works out fine normally, as the guys going to tournaments aren't wrestling in early season duals.

Here is a list of wrestlers from Penn (State) who are registered:

Non-Scoring Team Members

Name Group Weight Class Actual Weight Points
Clabaugh, Austin NCAA 133 0.0
Giannangeli, Dominic NCAA 141 0.0
Gardner, Luke NCAA 149 0.0
Pipher, Bo NCAA 157 0.0
Manville, Mason NCAA 174 0.0
Hoeg, James NCAA 197

That is correct. Transportation, food, accommodations, and fee, whatever is applicable..
Hey Roar, just curious, does it work the same way for the Scuffle when the team goes? Do the redshirts have to pay their own way including travel? Can they travel with the team? Thanks.

That's a good question. There was a rule modification 5 or 6 years ago that addressed this. I'm going on memory here, which is a dangerous thing ;), but RS's can have travel paid for in certain circumstances. I'll try to find it. Entrance fee, hotel, and food can not be paid for.

I saw Verk last year in the hotel I was staying in and didn't see the rest of the team. (there were other teams though)

Roar, do you expect to see additional entries from State College? Excited to see everyone who has registered so far. I don't know why Aaron Brooks isn't making the short trip from Colorado to Binghamton...:p

Haven't heard anything more today, so I suspect no one else will go. Since you brought up Brooks, albeit jokingly, the staff won't report on grayshirts, nor can I...but Mr. Brooks can.

Mr. Brooks listed 2 early season opens that Aaron was planning on competing in. I do not remember the second one. However if someone cares to search, the answer is here somewhere.

I wanted to give you guys Aaron’s schedule for November:

November (two college Folkstyle events at 184lbs

3 Cowboy Open (Wyoming University) 3pm EST on Flowrestling

10 UNC Open (University of Northern CO)

27-01 Martyrs Cup (Iran, Tehran) FS UWW 86kg

I had about 4 layers! But it wasn’t bad once the game started.

Also, I saw Cael and Cody eating breakfast at the Nittany Lion Inn. My son told them he was looking forward to the season and gave them a “We Are”. Cael replied correctly!!!!

Dang, Luke Gardner looks good! Killing this guy on his feet. Hanau can't be that bad, he took Bannister to SV last week. Im thinking Gardner is gonna make the finals here.

Im pretty sure Cael mentioned that Gardner gave Verkleeren a tough match in a wrestleoff.

First World Problems

First time watching Jack Davis. Lots to like. Moves well and showed an ability to scramble with a guy like Arujau. Loses 6-2, but only gave up 1 takedown.

Ugh, missed the Pipher match as well! Showing a fall over former Hovis of Navy. At one point, Hovis was ranked #1 at his weight in HS. Scoring showed a takedown for Hovis and reversal for Pipher. Maybe he reversed him to his back.
