I will admit that most of the time, the grass field is the best outside the south. This year the field looks shabby. It looks like an old time field that was practiced and played on. Anyone else seeing the same thing.
I said that to my buddy who came with me to the game yesterday...he agreed and he played in the Blue Band in the 1980s. He played on that turf a lot. He always said the surface was always top notch. We noticed the diamonds end zone from homecoming was still noticeable in both end zones under the block Penn State during pre game yesterday.I will admit that most of the time, the grass field is the best outside the south. I was thinking the same thing. I thought the grass looked a little on yellow side and the end zones needed to be repainted. I've been going to these last game/sr games for a long time and in some pretty nasty weather conditions and days leading up to the game and I was surprised that it wasn't as "nice" as I've seen in the past.🤷♂️I will admit that most of the time, the grass field is the best outside the south. Lol. It's the parts nearest the goal lines that were worn out by Franklin's pathetic offense when it took 9 overtimes to go 2 yards when he lost to a 25 point underdog bottom feeder at home. Any field would look that way after that.I will admit that most of the time, the grass field is the best outside the south. This year the field looks shabby. It looks like an old time field that was practiced and played on. Anyone else seeing the same thing.
I will go ahead with a post that will likely get drilled but I want PSU to present itself with the elite programs and as times change so must the best... The grass field needs to go!
Get field turf, put the logo on the 50, paint the end zones navy blue with white diamonds or with Penn State in white with a font that is a little more stylish, make the boundary lines thicker white. Forget the grass tradition, Joe has been gone for a decade! Let's freakin' update the look to present as one of the best. Ohio State bagged the grass as did Michigan and Notre Dame - their fields all look sharp and colorful now.
And one other update I would like to see - a throw back perhaps - let's go back to the grey facemasks and put the numbers on the helmets with one blue strip on the pants. Keep the no names, keep the black shoes but let's style as Alabama of the north!
I will duck for cover as the arrows start heading my way....
Happy Thanksgiving to all! Let's beat Sparty!!!
Trying to be like Boise State with their blue field and blue uniforms to go with it.We should bring in a white field with blue numbers for the whiteout games.
I’m pretty sure he licks windows too.you gnawed on too many windowsills as a kid *

Artificial turf causes more injuries and is much harder on the body than grass, but hey, it’s “sharp” and “colorful” so we can all masturbate while looking at it.I will go ahead with a post that will likely get drilled but I want PSU to present itself with the elite programs and as times change so must the best... I just want to see picture of your lawn so I can compare perfection with Penn State! Oh, and n pics without evidence of 22 people running roughshod over it. 🙄😊😉But, but we have one of the best turf programs in the nation.
Thanks for at least one rational take in this whole thread. When the soil temp gets below 45* the grass goes dormant for the season and as HartfordLion said it's tough to get it looking good after that. There was a cold snap at the start of November where the lows were in the mid 30's for almost a week straight - no recovering from that.Grass isn't growing much this time of the year so it's tough to get the field looking good after getting beat up couple of games in a row.
Did State College just start to get cold this year as opposed to every other year? The point is the field looked like crap from back in late September. Not like PSU played a game in pouring rain and destroyed the field. And not like State College HIgh and Bellefonte High were allowed to practice daily at Beaver Stadium. The field saw no more use and not worse conditions this year than it has the past 50 years and yet the turf looked much worse as the season wore on than anybody can remember it in the past. Thanks for at least one rational take in this whole thread. While I don’t support going away from grass your claims of more injuries are just not true with modern products. In fact less concussions occur on artificial turf than grass.Artificial turf causes more injuries and is much harder on the body than grass, but hey, it’s “sharp” and “colorful” so we can all masturbate while looking at it.

I doubt Herb and his team all of a sudden forgot how to keep the field in great shape. Something unique must have factored in to it.
"Now get off my field"!Not only did I notice it, a couple from California that I met that came out for the Michigan game mentioned it the first thing out of their mouths. In fact, the whole in-stadium atmosphere for the Michigan game sucked.
The fact they didn’t want the vendors selling water because they didn’t make as much money on it as the hot chocolate made the lines at the concession stands 50 miles long.
The Blue stripes between the 40 yard lines looked like gargantuan Michigan sections with the yellow that was mixed in.
I haven’t seen the field look as bad as it did yesterday since we played Rutgers in a torrential rain storm back in around 1993 or so. The field was a mess that night. The difference is that I think that they had just re-sodded, plus, it was raining cats and dogs the whole game. Yesterday and last week for Michigan, there was no excuse.
The field yesterday looked worse than most high school fields.

You should have transferred to Pitt as an undergrad.........your academic profile seems to be a better fit there........I will go ahead with a post that will likely get drilled but I want PSU to present itself with the elite programs and as times change so must the best... Need to install a hydronic heating system like Lambeau Field.Grass isn't growing much this time of the year so it's tough to get the field looking good after getting beat up couple of games in a row.
Maybe Sandy can lay-off one of the 75 asst Ad's and buy more sodNeed to install a hydronic heating system like Lambeau Field.
