I haven't seen this video before, perhaps you have. However, it does a nice job of mapping out the stadium upgrades and, IMHO, looks great. It also tells you where some of the donation money is being spent.

This is new. But nothing being done to the east side per finally getting some drawings? The west side looks amazing but will be weird to have the place be asymmetrical.

I am not sure they are done. Do we know that they aren't doing anything to the East side?

IMHO, it has always been asymmetrical with the press box on one sideling and none on the other. Then you've got the chairbacks in one endzone and the bleachers in the other.

Taking a bit of a victory lap, this is exactly what I described ten years ago. They are framing in the outside of the stadium and using the open areas as clubs and gathering areas. One of the things that has always shocked me is the lack of facilities around and in the stadium. For example, the only places to eat are food trucks after the game. You are going to see the stadium open three hours early and people go inside and eat/mingle. One of the reasons why PSU tailgating is so good is because you really don't have an alternative. That is going to change.

looks to me that there will be seats added, hopefully larger than michigan and it would be called the biggest house!!

We will be losing 6000 seats in this process.
I don't see that in the drawings. if you look at "evolution: chapter 1" at the 27 2nd time it look to me that the end zone stands are brought around to meet up with the west side stands this along with the added height of the west side should add to the seating capacity. no? i just like us to be a larger stadium than michigan.

It looks like some VIO loges will be there as well.
Yes, they will be between decks like all modern stadiums. At least on what was released today the east side and the suites appear to be staying in text. I’m sure they’ll address structural items and concourses but looks mostly the same.

No, they haven’t said they aren’t renovating the east side more extensively but didn’t say they are either!

Yeah, all 4 sides will have completely different designs and look disjointed. $700 million to add concessions/ bathrooms and only rebuild 1 of the 4 sides of the stadium? Seems like a lot of money for the end result. Plus the OCD in me doesn’t like that they’re keeping gaps in the 4 corners. ;) Fill them in and recoup some of the seating losses.

They’ve announced previously the seating capacity will fall but just remain over 100,000.

Don't most outdoor football stadia have gaps in the four corners to prevent swirling winds; I think that that's an intentional architectural design? I believe that most of the new outdoor NFL stadia are all built like this, except for Met Life.

Also, ideally, it would be best if all four sides were uniform. However, there are several college stadia like Camp Randall, Nebraska Memorial Stadium and Texas Memorial Stadium that are not uniform. Perhaps eventually they could transform the North balcony to look similar to the South balconies. Also, remember that at least a third of the East side is made up of student seats, and I don't believe that it would be a good idea to break those sections up into multiple levels. Every project has to start somewhere.

LOL...I get the OCD. I want to fix that.

But I think $700m is a cheap price. PSU hasn't done much of anything to the stadium for decades. Michigan has spent about $500m (for less) and tOSU has spent about $400m since 2000 and is now talking about making major updates. I've heard updates in the $1.2B range.

The gov just proposed a tax on gambling to pay for various sports stadiums in the state (CLE, Cincy, Columbus, for the most part). His estimate is $180m per year in increased revenue which could then be used as part of public/private initiatives.

I confess I’m not up on current construction costs like some others here. From what I could find, Texas AM spent $485 million for their renovation. $100 million was just to rebuild 1 side (West stands similar to the Beav). That was in 2014 so there would obviously be some inflation adjustment.

I think $700 million is way over, especially if us commoners will continue to cram ourselves into tiny bleachers seats.

Maybe it's just me, but paying for a game ticket to instead eat at a restaurant inside the game is weird, and not an upgraded experience.

They should have been able to do those for at least $200 million less, and the North deck situation is still lingering.

I am no expert either but the Browns stadium is expected to be $2.8B (if approved).

I've been to a handful of other stadiums and while I love the Beav, it was far behind the rest. it also left a lot of money off the table.

The restrooms and places to eat were no better than the old Browns Stadium and worse than Pittsburgh's old Three Rivers Stadium. Access was horrible and connectivity non-existent.

The entire area under the stands was wasted. It wasn't able to withstand really cold temperatures. And the approach, the curb appeal, was second rate.

Now, what I love about the stadium is being inside. And it really looks great driving into the area like a silver castle on the hill.

IMHO, $700m is a good number. I hope it frees up some other areas. For example, move the HoF inside the stadium and repurpose that building. Open it up to gain concessions for people visiting the HoF, taking in a minor league baseball game, and for anything nearby (basketball, wrestling, volleyball). Lots of opportunities. I'd even consider a 4* restaurant and hotel. Rent it out for business meetings, weddings and events. Can't hurt recruiting as well.

I always appreciate your comments about this matter. I agree with you that Beaver Stadium is just a great place to watch the game once your inside of it because of how close the stands are to the field.

I'll also say this. I've always found it much easier to enter Beaver Stadium despite crowds in excess of 100,000 compared to entering Heinz Field, which is just an awful experience, with crowds of around 65,000. Heinz Field is just so terribly designed for ingress and egress.

I fully expect the Steelers to follow the Browns' lead and eventually build a new stadium somewhere in the suburbs like in Cranberry. I know that the Browns' new stadium is going to be enclosed so that it can host events all season like the Big 10 Championship Game and maybe even the National Championship and Super Bowl, and I would hope that the Steelers' new stadium, if it ever happens, also would be enclosed or at least have a retractable roof. I have no idea why the Bills' new stadium isn't going to be like this.

When I was at PSU this past July for the Keystone State Games Hockey Tournament, I visited the All Sports Museum and took a tour onto field level of Beaver Stadium just to kill some time. At that time, the tour guide told the group that the renovations would reduce the seating capacity by approximately 6000 seats.

Where are these temporary bleachers going to sit,? In the second deck? The first deck? In the corners?

For this upcoming season, they are going to sit atop the first deck. After the 2025 season, work will be done on the first deck, so I don't know how that's going to work.

Not entirely wasted. At least not when I was prowling around. The underneath was my parking spot. Lol.

Dude, the rendering is wild. They look like aluminum bleachers from a high school stadium perched on top of a platform that will cover the lower bowl (and support the future upper decks).

That's probably a pretty accurate description of what they're going to be; it's either that or have nothing at all. Memphis is renovating the Liberty Bowl, and they played this whole past season with most of one sideline completely gone.

How the hell are aluminum bleachers on top of the first deck going to support the second deck above them? Does anyone have the artists rendering? This is going to be bizarre

I'm beginning to think they have no freaking idea what they are doing or if it will get done.

There isn't going to be a second deck to support this upcoming season with the temporary bleachers; that's going to come later.

I am 80. I can easily walk up, even 40 rows. You lose your balance wi5h age. The east endzone Loge has railings in the middle. I am going to the 1st 2 games and will need seats there unless they add railihgs. I'd have to walk down sideways, to keep from falling.

...and we need to wifi for SnapChat.

Thanks for posting that. My spring game attendance has always been weather-dependent. April is very iffy. But I am building a new home and think April is going to be a critical month where weekends are valuable so think there is only about a 20% chance of me attending. I know all of you will want me to keep you apprised.

If attendance capacity doesn't end in 409 as in 101,409 it's a failure as far as I'm concerned.

I'm seeing quite a few listings in Penn State Fakebook groups of people trying to sell their season tickets. I'm likely giving mine up in WHU as the home schedules the next two years don't have many compelling opponents.
