I liked his list, and I figure a two-time Hodge Trophy winner is a pretty credible source!

Nitpicking.....
But, I would have Retherford over iMar.
iMar is very dominant and has two titles. But, he had two opponents last year that he won very close contests. He was 2-1 vs Nolf, including getting pinned. His two wins were a double OT win on criteria, and a nip-and-tuck first-takedown-wins match.
He was 1-0 vs Ian Miller, needing overtime to beat him.. and very nearly losing that match in regulation.

Retherford destroyed all his opponents. His "closest" match was a 4-0 victory in the B1G championship vs Sorenson. 100% of those watching can testify that the 4-0 score was not indicative of the utter domination.

And I am an tOSU grad, so I really dont have a PSU bias for Retherford... just think he should be ranked higher than iMar. And, if it wasnt for J'den Cox's freestyle world accolades, I would have Retherford above him as well.

Man, you'd think Flo could make some money from another Dake v. Taylor, Delgado v. Megaludis, Taylor v. Dieringer, or some other matches featuring post-grads. Heck, I'd pay more on top of my Flo subscription to see some of these match-ups!

Not taking issue with your argument but Zain's closest match last year was against BJ Clagon, who he beat 2-1. Clagon is a good wrestler but there's no reason to think that match was anything but an outlier.

A kid who hasn't quite won his first title over a two-time champ? Slow your roll, Bro.
What I see is one guy who will finish 3-1-1-1, and the other will go 2-1-1-1, negligible difference. One beat Ruth, other beat Martinez, again not a huge difference (though Nolf was dominating before the fall).

The real differences are that Nolf's freshman bonus rate is much better than any of Dean's seasons, and Nolf's only career losses will have come to Martinez.

Plus the fact that Dean isn't #1 or #2 in this list means his 2 titles aren't king.

I like Dean. A lot. But give me Nolf.

And, again, if we're counting freestyle accomplishments, third place in the Olympic trials ought to count for something.

I never saw this topic mentioned on this forum, but I think Retherford was shortchanged in the selection of OW in the NCAA tournament. Snyder got the award primarily because his match with Gwiz was considered the premier match of the tournament. (which is clearly the case) However, Retherford totally dominated his weight class. Nobody came even close to him, and his "most competitive" match was a 10-1 MD over Sorenson in the finals.

I see both sides of the argument, though my personal opinion was Zain in a close vote. That said, he did win the NCAA's Most Dominant Wrestler Award, and helped his team win the National Championship. Knowing Zain, not winning OW isn't a big deal at all.

Zain was at bucknell the other day for legend practice. Obviously, the future is unknown so anything can happen, but here on 9/27/16 I dont see him having another Clagon match.

fruits are in fear of him everywhere!

We did discuss it at the end of NCAAs, and I believe again when the Hodge Award results were announced.
