On an off weekend, why not? Hopefully Berge goes vs Maruca. Could be a great chance for Brady to make a big statement against a quality opponent. It's a opportunity to put the rest of 149 on notice that Berge will be a contender for the title this season. How do people think this one goes down? Why not throw some predictions out just for f**?!??!
I'll start; Berge by dec, 8-3.

Ok, I’ll go Berge dec. 7-3, now let’s go Hall/Zahid,

I’ll start: Zahid dec. 5-2

Legally speaking......I would say Berge vs Verk is not settled case law yet..

Agree...can I recommend we discuss both Berge vs Maruca AND Verk vs Maruca.

IMHO they both beat Maruca but it will be a close match either way. I don;t expect the starter at 149 to be decided until after the Scuffle and maybe later than that.

First off, this post was not a knock on Verk at all. Verk wrestled the last match so I figured it was Berge's turn next. I expect them to alternate until The Scuffle.
That said, I'll say Zahid 4-3 and Maruca 3, Verk 2.

Sounds about right to me. I just think Zahid’s combination of skill and length are too much for Marky. Skill wise they’re even, but the length puts Zahid on top.

IMO Berge is the better option. Yeah it was close when they wrestled each other but to me that’s room familiarity. Give me the guy that can get to legs anytime. This is no disrespect to Verk, just my honest evaluation based on what I’ve seen.

Berge dec Maruca 9-3
Maruca dec Verk 5-4
This. Berge is the real deal.

Awesome that psu has not one,but two outstanding youngsters at 149. Also can't wait to see if Roman Bravo Young can get noticed at 133.

Berge all day against ASU.

Verk against a back up easy pick. Against Maruca Im not so sure. Hes gotten a lot of message board love since the kent st. match and keystone/berge match. outside of those two data points, Im personally not so convinced hes the guy over berge. much love for my pa boy but just typing what I see.

I want Mark to win against Zahid, but really what in that NC match suggests a different outcome this match. Heck can you find something in the last 8 months of matches that suggests a different outcome. Hope Mark wins, some of the best crow is warm crow.

Though I picked Zahid by a single point, and he deserves to be favored, I believe the difference between these two is far narrower than some think. If Mark were to win a close one it would not shock me at all. Let's say out of a hundred matches Zahid wins 58, Mark 42.

Hall and Zahid wrestle so similarly against top tier guys, waiting for the counter rather than getting to legs. Both guys are so good getting behind that getting stuffed on a shot is often fatal, and since both guys are otherwise waiting to counter, one go-behind can win the match. And as good as Hall's go-behinds are, Zahid has a reach advantage that makes his a little better.

I suspect the best way to take Zahid down is to get to both his legs at the same time, but Hall isn't really known for having a blast double. Still, I imagine the coaches have worked with Hall on how to beat Zahid since Zahid is Hall's only real competition at the weight. But does Hall show his hand now? I'm not sure I would. Maybe wrestle the same match you keep wrestling against him now and save the new approach for March.

I don't think the coaches approach things this way, with so much emphasis on the process instead of results, but you only need to watch Hall and Zahid's two most recent matches to know that they're playing chess. They know each other as well as two opponents do in large part because they're similar.

Give me 4-3 either way and for argument sake I will take Hall. NCAA final was against giant Zahid with a very long recovery. Semi final Zahid barely beat Amine who is tough but not quite Mark Hall tough. Berge wins 5-3 also.

I dont know this but I have read banter that suggests they have wrestled nearly 10 times over their career to date in official matches and the head gear match is the only match Mark has won. Again, I dont know that, just read it.

Put on the head gear, shake hands, and the best man that evening will win. I’ll go with those that think this will be a 1-point bout...Mark and Zahid, that is.

This plus Verk and Maruca surely are very familiar with each other from youth thru HS.

Regardless, Berge. Granted not top opposition, but watching him at Bucknell was like Nick Lee never stepped off the mat. Same constant attack mode, same short offense, same gas tank, same intensity to the final whistle.

Verk is good but Berge is suffocating.

[QUOTE="Cali_Nittany, post: 3855377, member: 46152"I'll be a homer and say Mark 83, Zahid 17.[/QUOTE]

That's a lot of points, Cali. Surely would set some kind of record. But I admire the bold prediction. As they say, go big or go home.

I throw my hat in with those saying it will be a 1 point match -- 4-3 Mark.

Now back to PSU_Rings' Cael shrine room to pray for that outcome.

My spidey sense detects some sarcasm here. I'll try not to be offended to be lumped in with spyker jr.

...and next Friday will be one of the 42. With the fans blowing the roof off of Rec Hall, Mark cements the legacy of Wreck Hall....7-3, Mark. Home field advantage baby!!!

Berge vs Maruca
Berge will own this match. Brady will come out firing working the head and positioning and will fire off numerous attacks. After 1 period either 6 - 2 or 8 - 3 and finishes with a major.

Mark vs Valencia
Last year in the NCAA finals Mark got caught out of position numerous times, and I believe that simply isn't going to happen this time. Both kids are unbelievably exceptional and Valencia believes he can attack Mark with success. Mark most certainly understands he needs to both control positioning to limit Valencia's successes, as well as he must attack successfully himself.

I expect numerous attacks resulting in some quite entertaining scrambles and one of these kids scores 2 maybe 3 takedowns and the other scores 1 or 2. I am going most likely outcome is 5 - 4 or 7 - 5. I like Mark's chances.

I like Zahid's chances more.

I think they are very even.. I think for Mark to win he needs to open things up a bit.. attack and get into some of the scramble positions he is so good at winning.. When he lays back and tries to counter, Zahid's length and ability to finish shots concerns me.. Should be a great match.. Hope Rec Hall HFA helps bring a victory home for Mark..

Hall is going to be sooo much improved. He wants to be the BEST IN THE WORLD. He will major Zahid everytime this year....JMO

Yea, FRL can be a joke when they are low on content or a slow week that they pick out a post from one guy or 2 from a message board and generalize an entire fan base, it’s beyond lazy work, but they aren’t journalists ;-)
