I've read a lot and this by far was the most thorough and thoughtful analysis of the murky if not difficult evaluation of Hackenberg.
Christian Hackenberg's Glorified Freshman Campaign Did Not Show Future Star QB
All things aside, I don't know enough about football other than to guess about whether or not he has the ability to put it all together and become a star NFL QB(none of do we're fans) but if there is one thing as a fan of both NFL and college, Hackenberg is everything you want in a young man and face of a franchise. If he can take his God given talent and develop, his upside far outweighs the risk that he won't be an elite passer.
He's a guy that runs in to a burning house, welcomes adversity, shoulders blame, rarely complains and his clearly respected and well loved in the locker room.
I find it absolutely amazing how easily people forget how punitive and destructive the sanctions were and that he ran towards it. Completely unprecedented and likely never to happen again in NCAA college history. No one will ever know what it was like to walk in that kids shoes. That being said, there's enough there, to look at the risk reward and not not like your chances for what you might actually get.
The kid will be a homerun for whichever franchise drafts him and a consummate professional even if he doesn't develop into the star he was projected as 3yrs ago.
I'm really proud as an alum to have enjoyed Christian Hackenberg the individual and player at Penn State and look forward to cheering him every Sunday as long as he's not playing for Dallas.
