Best Cheese Steak in State College?

There hasn't been a good cheese steak in State College in years.

CC Peppers and Bradley's are pretty good.

The best thing about Bradley's is that it's right across from The Skeller.

I've been in town since 1990, back when CCPeppers had multiple locations. I have never been impressed with any of their food. I have a friend of a friend that comes to town every two or three years and insists on going there. I just don't taste the appeal.

I tried Bradley's twice. Both times my cheese steak was al roll & grease. Steak and cheese were a scant garnish.

Ernie's is ok, but thier steak is cut up in chunks as if they were making a fajita, not a cheese steak.

My favorite was Boot's, but they closed years ago.I thought V&S was alright, but they closed a couple of years ago too.

Excellent choice. I favor the 14" Philly Style with heavy sauce. Make sure to grab a few extra napkins on the way out the door.

If you can, drive down 26 toward Huntingdon to a place called McMurtrie's Tavern, south of McAlevy's Fort. Good steaks, even better is the Hess sandwich which is like a Buffalo chicken cheesesteak. Really good.

Ccpeppers is not what is used to be. They changed everything once the original owner got out. Haven't been there since I tried new owners once.

Eh, cheesesteaks are like sex. The worst sex I ever had was still pretty good just like the worst cheesesteak I ever had was still pretty good. Pretty hard to screw up a cheesesteak so bad that it becomes uneatable.

Exacto. THat's how I feel about pizza. I have had some poor excuses for cheesesteaks though.

Well, it's 1:45 away, but Shugar's in New Cumberland. Authentic rolls from South Philadelphia arrive daily. They slice real prime rib and have a good assortment of cheese including my favorite, whiz! There's also a place on 4th street in Harrisburg right by the train station that does the same thing. A good steak must be on an authentic roll and must be prime rib, no substitutions are allowed.

af
{shrug} I've always been very happy with Famous Ernie's Steaks next door to the Phyrst.

Never heard of "Ernie's"!!!!! Of course I do not spend a lot time on Beaver Ave.

Are you for real? The question, my friend, was the best (cheese) steak in State College!

Margarita's on Beaver and Fraser. Best beef and chicken cheese steak in town.Really good with crunchy bread and generous portion.

And where on College Ave is Gus's located?
Gus's is long gone. Long time ago, but I think it was roughly where the Student Book Store is now on E. College Ave. If you graduated in '69 you may remember it having a couple of kitchen fires.
