Big 10 Cancels Football?

Rumor mill is spinning. LHU Wrestlers had a party. Lots of covid positives out of it. If more positive cases come back from the tests as expected it will push the percentage over the 5% allowance of the student population and shut the school down to online only. Sounds like its going to happen.

I didn't know where to put this info and didn't want to start a new thread.

The rumor mill is definitely spinning. Out of control.

LHU has 33 cumulative positives.

Assuming that figure is all students -- though LHU does not break it down into students vs. faculty/staff -- it's 1.04% of the 3,162 student population.

State College Area schools had a metric in their plan that if the area had 50-75 new cases in a 7 day period, they would go remote. We’re at 60+ after 6 days of classes. (Only randomly testing 1% of undergrads). That metric is inevitability defined.

The positive cases you show are correct. From what I'm told they have something like 250 tests waiting to come back. The "expectations" that were explained to me is the assumption of positive results from those tests. We should hear more today. I'm also simply assuming that there would be repercussions to the athletes responsible for the gathering.

There are still so many things not being told and unknown with covid 19, people need to take a breath and chill. Yes you can test positive for a long time after you've had covid and no longer contagious as some experts say. Yes they are finding more and more false pos and neg results. The CDC updated the covid death percentages most wont see on biased news reports. Yes it can be deadly but to most not. Yes we need precautions but let's be smart about it. To those that wear masked while driving alone in a car, WTF, you need help with your OCD or paranoia. A serious thing has happened and or state Gov. turned it into a political sh** show.

JMU is going back to online for another month and sending most students home next week for a month (this is first week of school on campus). Certain upper class students can remain if warranted. Services are still available. Off campus rent doesn't change....
Their claim is that there are getting too many students in quarantine and it is hard to support that space/requirement.

Late yesterday they backtracked on that. Now they’re saying that number is just one of many metrics they’re using to determine a response to go remote. We’re now at 68 after 6 days. State has been bungled this from the start, imo.

Wait what? You fell for that fake science? 180,000 and counting.
No politics here. Just science. Please.

They never actually cancelled the whole season in the first place did they? I thought they had just said in 2020 right? But yes this would still be moving it up a few months of course

A start in November is pointless. Things looking good for the upcoming wrestling season.

Now there is some talk it could be October, but others say not enough time to get teams ready for a start then.

Ahh so now WHO and CDC are wrong for not fitting in your agenda lol
You keep saying those acronyms. I don’t think they’re saying what you think they’re saying.

Instead of dishonestly and/or obtusely misdescribing somewhat complicated (not really) CDC/FDA stats, we can just look at the easiest stat there is: number of deaths. Everybody can count, right?

In the last six months, there have been about 200,000 more deaths in the US than the normal amount, per Johns Hopkins University.

This raw excess-deaths number is consistent with the COVID death count and a COVID cause. The people misdescribing the somewhat complicated :rolleyes:CDC/FDA stats have not proposed their own explanation for the excess deaths, as far as I know. But they probably will. And their explanation will be darkly comical (and horribly sad for the state of our civilization).

But they were ok earlier when they had no clue but fit what you wanted them to say

No agenda.
As for the Johns Hopkins site, I have been watching that since it launched.

This is a dangerous virus. It's long term effects are not (and cannot yet) be known.

Looks like Big Ten football could be back, baby.

I think they need to flip 6 votes if the 11-3 vote was correct. I would think that you could get Purdue and Indiana. You should get Penn State when you think about everyone in the state playing but PSU. Although, I don't have any great faith in Eric Barron. So, maybe those 3 to start. I don't think you get Northwestern, Illinois, or Rutgers (I'd like to see Schiano have some influence, however). So, we need to get 5 of the next 6: Wisconsin, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, Maryland, Minnesota.

I hope you are right, but I'm not optimistic.

Everyone will look / read whatever organization /stats that fits their mindset with this. You really cannot just look at the fatality stat some associate with covid and say that the number we need to say oh my god go in a bubble, since you dont want to read what others CDC- WHO are now saying what they think the real death stat is from covid

Yeah, we really cannot just look at 200,000 extra dead people and use our brains to try to figure what was different this year from previous years. That would be asking too much. After all, we are only Homo sapiens sapiens who have conquered smallpox and gone to the moon. How can we be expected to do detective work?

Also, to mimic your logic, people will look / read whatever sources that fit their mindset on whether the Earth is flat or sphere-like. So I guess we can never know whether the Earth is flat or not.

Strangely enough.......in Florida......the number of deaths now reported from Pneumonia is about 25% higher than the last 5 year average. Probably just a coincidental anomaly that has no relation whatsoever to your point :)

Cool datapoint! By Pneumonia do you mean pneumococcal pneumonia exclusively? Or do you mean all pneumonia? I ask because pneumonia is a symptom of COVID. Also, how many deaths does 25% represent? I’m glad we’re talking in a scientific way, now! :) Edit: Also, how many of the 125% Pneumonia dead (also) had COVID-19 before they died, and of those how many had COVID-19 on the death certificate?

There is a Lady in Florida that worked on Covid data who got fired after alleging that the Pneumonia designation was a deliberate attempt by Gov. Desantis to hide the true number of Covid deaths in Florida. Clearly the numbers seem to support her accusation. But....she was fired by Desantis for being a "Bad Employee" so you have to decide who to believe. The numbers in Florida are pretty concerning.

Let's all stick our blinders on and ear muffs on . Keep the red and blue shades off. Talking covid 19 and political agendas is like trying to have a sane conversation on the HR board.
