The East:
OSU beat Minny
MSU beat NW
PSU beat Wisc
MD had nice win vs WVA
RUT & MICH dominated weak teams
Indiana lost to Iowa.

OSU is the obvious favorite but there might not be many easy games in the east.

The West:
Iowa was impressive
Illinois lost to UTSA
Wisc lost to PSU

Way too early but you have to like Iowa but not rule out Wisc or Minny.

If PSU would have been in the West since the beginning and Wisky in the East, you have to wonder how many B1G championships both teams would have played in up to now.

Looks like Iowa - who a few picked preseason - is the favorite now in the West and they're not exactly a team everyone fears.

PSU will have tough road games at Iowa and O$U and pesky ones at Maryland and MSU. That’s their season right there. Win 3 out of four and they will be in the Rose Bowl. Think Maryland will cancel classes this year?

You make a good point about Maryland. They're putting together a somewhat talented roster over there - at least on paper. Have a feeling they're going to screw someone's season up bigtime.

As much as I hate the thought of it, I think Rutgers will be more than competitive this year. They’re going to surprise a few opponents as Shiano is doing a good job both recruiting and coaching.

Rutgers scares me more than Maryland, schiano vs locks is a huge gap. Md looked terrible after that first quarter

I thought Michigan was the champions of the west?
They are and will prove it this year ! Seriously, the West is wide open but no matter who wins it will get waxed again in the B1G championship game by the East champion - as usual

Yeah, and that 2022 recruiting class that Schiano is putting together is eye opening. Their 247 Composite 88.32 / recruit is right there with Michigan's. That team should be really decent in the next few years.

UT has to be so happy that they avoided bringing in Schiano into UT........good job Clay Travis.
My hometown high school coach Tim Janocko his son Andrew, is now the QB coach for the Minnesota Vikings. Greg took him under his wing some years back. Andrew just raves about how intelligent of a coach he is.

We have a really difficult schedule, especially when you consider which ones are on the road. I would say that we could give up a loss somewhere and still have a great case for the playoffs.

"A" loss, perhaps. It will be very difficult to get through this schedule with a single loss and the CFP committee has proven they don't give a rat's a$$ about SOS. They only look at the loss column and if you have a "2" on that side of the ledger, you are out of the playoff. They'll go look for an SEC team to complete the 4 team invitational.

The problem is going to be Clemson. They've now lost 2 games in a row and in both cases their OL was dominated bigtime. And they no longer have Trevor Lawrence to overcome that deficiency. They'll be favored by at least double digits in their remaining ACC games (a complete joke). Everybody around the country keeps talking about it but never accounts for this BS when it comes time to select the Playoff teams. I really don't understand the few people on this board that think the almighty ACC is the way to go.

So, imagine if Clemson, Georgia, Alabama, Notre Lame, Oklahoma, PSU - and maybe even Oregon if the beat OSU this coming Saturday - all finish with 1 loss or less. That's a very real possibility although a couple of those teams could get tripped up a couple of times before the season ends. Wanna guess who the one team that hasn't been there before and won multiple championships and playoff appearances in the past 5 or 6 years is and probably won't get the consideration the others get ? Is it fair and right. Absolutely not. But mark my words, teams like Clemson, Notre Lame, and Oklahoma will be considered - with the same amount of losses - before PSU and it sucks.

Exactly ! Like it or not, that's just the way it is - 2 losses and you're dead in the water. The only 2-loss possibility is an SEC team and even that won't happen if there's 4 one loss teams.

Do you have some sort of grudge against Purdue????

This is part of why the Big Ten added Maryland and Rutgers.

They have much higher potential than Midwest teams like Minnesota or Indiana or Illinois due to proximity to recruiting grounds/growth regions.

(Of course both are located in huge media markets filled with Big Ten alums and lots of cable boxes).

I'm sure this discussion has been had multiple times but it still bears repeating... it's STILL idiotic the tOSU, Michigan and Penn State are all in the same division. If they want to keep tOSU and Michigan in the same division, we should be in the other.

Clay Travis put the final nail in UT football. Schiano would have UT in the top 10 by now. But thanks to Travis making up a lie it set them back 4-6 years minimum. Heavens he even had state politician getting involved with canceling the contract.

We need to realign to red, not red divisions.

Red
OSU
Wisconsin
Indinia
Maryland
Rutgers
Illinois
Nebraska

Not Red
PSU
Iowa
Michigan
MSU
Purdue
Northwestern
Minnesota

How about this one? It's just an alphabetical split but that's a lot of "I"s and "M"s.

IM Division
Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Maryland
Michigan
Michigan State
Minnesota

NOPRW Division
Nebraska
Northwestern
Ohio State
Penn State
Purdue
Rutgers
Wisconsin

Those seem a little better parity-wise, at least with the current state of the teams.

Theoretically, team strengths fluctuate over time so any division alignment will waver as to how balanced it is in any given year.

And in practice, it’s a moot point since I don’t see the divisions changing unless the conference expands again.

Wait, some of those may be scarlet, crimson, cardinal, or vermillion

Minnesota is more "red" than Illinois.
Right. I’d go warm vs cool as the primary color. Is Michigan more blue or more Maude? They say “go big blue” so let’s say blue. Minnesota is maroon and gold, both warm colors. Illinois is orange and blue or blue and orange… which is their more dominant color?
