"Wednesday afternoon, Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports reported the Big Ten had approved Michigan's waiver request to allow Rudock to transfer within the conference and be eligible right away for one final season."

RT @NYCDoctorJoe: Why did B1G make exception for Rudock transfer? Just curious.
RT @GerryDiNardo: Because it was right thing 2 do especially in the day of student athletes rights.

Does anyone know the details of this case? I wonder if the decision would still be 'yes' if you replaced Michigan with Minnesota or Wisconsin or if the transfer went the other way- from Michigan to Iowa. ;)

Transfer without sitting out a year. Is iowa the new Penn State?

Very good question. I was thinking the same thing. How about if Rudock wanted to go from the Hawkeyes to the Scarlet Knights. I'd like to know how the B1G justified this exemption.

Nahhh. Its Michigan so its ok. Not sure they (BIG10 and Delaney) would extend the same courtesy to say oh I don't know
Penn State, Minnesota, Indiana, NW...

Just another crooked walk.

and the beat goes on. Love DiNardo's reply. Since when was the B1G about "the right thing to do?" What a crock.

I thought it was a NCAA rule that one has to sit for a year

after transferring to another Division I school.

The Big 10 rule is that you can't be on scholarship at the Big 10 school to which you transfer.

I like the last twit in the link. Same as I was thinking - waiting for an

answer, but DiNardo must have suddenly became overwhelmed with something else.
Nice "hit and run" comment and nothing to back it up.

Answer is that the B1G does not have to justify it.

Just like they don't have to justify the conferences crappy officiating or refs living in Michigan doing Michigan games. Just the way it is.

Hartsock catch for o$u early 2000's at Beaver. Back judge who ruled catch

at the time was the head of high school football officials for the Ohio High School Athletic Association. He was in charge of training, evaluations and selecting officials for playoffs based on system in place.

Funny thing is he was trying to black-ball a friend of mine. My buddy had done state championship games in the past due to being so good.

I sent Hank Zaborniak (back judge and OHSAA board member) an email in support of my friend and stated we should not judge officials based on one play. I then included a the picture of him as back judge and the ball hitting the ground while o$u's Hartsock attempted to catch it. My question was - "how would it be if we judged this official on this mistake?"

Not surprisingly, I did not receive an answer.

I know you guys enjoy hacking on Michigan here (I do too), but I think this is legit, and not a special exception.

It has to do with Jake graduating from Iowa, and then attending another school for post-graduate work. The field of study that he goes into cannot be offered at the school he's leaving.

I don't know all the details, but that's the basic story behind this.

BTW, most of the Iowa fans are quite negative about Jake, but I personally think he's at least a decent quarterback.

.

Giving PSU back their rightful share of the B1G pie is the right thing to do too but I don't see that happening. DiNardo and Delaney can take their BS and shove it where the sun don't shine!

From what I can tell, this case is a first.

Big Ten rules on intra-conference transfers are that the player sit out one year AND lose one year of eligibility. No exceptions were made for a graduate transfer, who, under NCAA rules could play immediately. Thus, Rudock, who was at Iowa for four years couldn't transfer to Michigan unless Harbaugh suddenly became generous and didn't want anything in return for the athletic scholarship. Nah, I don't think so.

Believe the key here is that Ferentz gave Rudock a release (at least to transfer to Michigan, if nowhere else). In similar past cases involving undergraduate transfers, the Big Ten has waived its rules.

That aside, DiNardo is still a fat, dumb turd and Delany is skid marks.

That's why I asked if anyone had the details of the case. I don't know if there was precedent or not. Anytime well spelled out rules are suddenly waived for Michigan (or Ohio St.) by Delany- there will always be questions about it here. ;)

Grad Transfers in Big Ten to Big Ten are normally not allowed

From article:

The Big Ten usually requires a player to sit out for a season if he transfers within the league (even for graduate transfers), but the Big Ten gave him clearance to play right away after Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz put no restrictions on his transfer.

they are not scheduled to play each other

KF likely would psu and osu as well.. but they do not have qb issues (in the "need" sense)...

meatwagon does.

Re: From what I can tell, this case is a first.

Who was it that transferred from Michigan into Penn State a few years ago -- was it DE Chris Rodgers? As I recall, because of B1G/NCAA transfer restrictions, Chris had to pay his own way at Penn State. Bet he and his parents would have appreciated Jim Delany granting a special exception back then. Apparently, the Big Ten wasn't interested in student-athletes' rights nor "doing the right thing" until it concerned a student-athlete transferring INTO Michigan.
