Won't link it because screw that guy, but unfortunately stumbled over him writing a Paterno hit piece, and using it to say he'll be cheering for Wisconsin.
The most troubling part is that he states as fact that Joe Pa was told of Sandusky's abuse in 1976 and ignored it. Amazing. This claim which has been subject to zero scrutiny is now being pushed as scientific fact.

Don't even read that crap, it's not even worth your time.Who cares what these douchebags think. None of them are journalists...they just write opinion pieces.

Usually I do, but I had a weak moment when it popped up in my Google newsfeed because I said I'm interested in Joe Paterno.

Livingston is, in fact a journalist. He's been a journalist for a long time, at a number of papers. He was at the Dallas Morning News. He was at the Philadelphia Inquirer, and part of the time he wrote for the Inky he was their sports writer assigned to Penn State football. He's been at the Cleveland Plains Dealer for some time. I believe he went there as a sports writer, but now he's a sports columnist for the Plains Dealer.

Over the past 5 years, he's written several articles, many which I linked, that were scathing about Penn State. I have a hard time figuring out why he seems so mad about Penn State. wentzel indicated that in today's column Livingston referenced JoePa knowing about JS in 1976 -- something which only appeared in transcripts from an insurance company trying to get out of paying PSU, and which has been pretty solidly debunked by a number of individuals.

I actually stumbled upon Livingston's column this morning, and was debating whether to link it on the board. I hesitated, because it was more nonsense from someone that seems to have an agenda, and also seems to have forgotten some of the pillars of journalism. Since somebody else started the discussion, I'll link the column. Whether you elect to give the Plains Dealer clicks for the column is up to you.

I should have been more clear..by journalist I meant someone that could look at something objectively and state facts and present multiple sides to stories. I would argue that 99% of all "journalists" are shock jockeys and this guy uses his opinions and bias's as "facts" in his writing. That's not journalistic integrity IMO..others may disagree but having a job as a writer does not make you a "journalist."

I used to read him when he was covering the Lions. Bill Lyon too. I will not click. I get the message.

Sounds like your definition of a "journalist" is much different than most people's! If I remember correctly from many, many, many years ago, a journalist needed to look at the five W's (who, what, where, when, and why) and then 'confirm, confirm, confirm' everything he put into print! These 'shock jocks' make 'shiat up' and call them facts! They are not journalists!!!!

Thank your BOT. They caused this, and they refuse to fix this. They are actually happy about this.
I think every time they see, or hear of, a piece like this, they take smug satisfaction in having done "the right thing" and having established a national narrative that has not substantially changed, despite the efforts of many to do so. It is at times like these that I realize that I will not see Joe Paterno's name and legacy rehabilitated in my lifetime, and neither will my children or grandchildren in theirs.

Livingston is a HUGE Ohio State fan. His column is often in great praise of tOSU, even when they got caught cheating and lying. He refers to times he was with Paterno. I get the impression that Paterno dressed him down once or twice. Regardless, this article, along with many others he's written are chalk full of factual errors. I've emailed him several times, offering to buy him lunch and discuss the issue, but he's never responded. I know one of the other columnists pretty well. he told me that Livingston is a bitter guy who isn't well liked. surprising, right?

Among the people who really did nothing are/were the journalists/writers/media who covered PSU during the JS years.

They put themselves forth as experts at all things PSU. This went on right under their noses. If there was anything to know, these are the folks that would have known. You cannot tell me that reporters crawling out of the woodwork would be the last people to know.

You and I did not cause them to go gaga over Sandusky's coaching success, to put the cameras on him on the sideline, to do features on his coaching and his charity. They did it themselves....after doing their research.

There post-scandal thrashing of PSU is nothing more than their guilt coming to the surface. They need to deal with that in a more constructive manner.

Chitown: Actually, in Conlin's case it was reported to be girls (and family members at that)--but the point remains. Still kids....

Well, that's not entirely correct. The allegations against Conlin were made mostly by girls, but also by a boy. In the case of the boy, Conlin allegedly molested both his sister and him. Most of the allegations were made by family members, but some were made by friends of the family, or by friends of Conlin's children.

I don't like linking articles about abuse, but this one (CLICK HERE) should establish that what I stated above is correct.
