UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men’s basketball program will take the Blue-White Hoops Showcase down Interstate 99 on an annual basis, beginning Saturday, Oct. 24 in the Altoona Fieldhouse at Altoona High School. The first in the yearly series of events will feature an open practice with the 2015-16 Nittany Lions beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Admission is free for all fans and includes a post-event meet and greet with the Nittany Lions. The 2015-16 schedule poster will be available for the autograph session.
“We are looking forward to taking Blue-White Hoops Showcase to Altoona and to spend the day with fans from Blair County,” Patrick Chambers, Nittany Lion head coach, said. “Penn State fans and alumni are spread throughout the state, and anytime we have a chance to play in their backyard, it is an opportunity we are going to pursue.”
Fans can park around Altoona High and Junior High Schools and enter through the main fieldhouse entrances.
“We are extremely excited to host this event and to celebrate the game of basketball with coach Chambers and his program,” Phil Riccio, the athletic director at Altoona HS said. “The chance to unite our two communities with an event like this is one we appreciate and look forward to.”
A number of games and contests are slated for throughout the day, highlighted a chance for one current Penn State Altoona student to win $250 worth of books.
The Nittany Lions open the season Nov. 14 against VMI in the Bryce Jordan Center. The home schedule features seven non-conference games, including two at historic Rec Hall, and eight Big Ten contests. Season tickets, Big Ten mini plans and single-game tickets for all home games are available from GoPSUsports.com or by calling 1-800-NITTANY.
