Podcast Bo Bassett commits to Iowa over Penn State + is NIL an issue?

Consider this: Bo may have made a genius move. Accept the unheard of 5 million dollar offer. Then I redshirt the first year while collecting a chuck of that NIL money. After that first year.....I am already a millionaire. Then.....I transfer to the college I really wanted to go to that will develop me to the fullest. That colleges' offer will be easily over a million. I get my 4 years of development but start with 1 + million in the bank....collecting interest. In the words of an Iowa expert....."Book It" :)

Money doesn't talk. It screams bloody murder.

It’s $5 million over 4-5 years, not an up front payment and once you leave those payments stop.

So the rumors about Iowa swooping in with $5M were actually true? Bo basically said money was the same everywhere. Not sure what to think or believe.

Who knows. I honestly don't care and won't lose one second's sleep over it, but I have to think that Bo was being less than honest when he said that the offers were comparable. Hey, I'm sure Iowa has some redeeming features, but it's hard to imagine that he'd make that decision absent the money. That said, it's his decision and people do things for any number of reasons.

Sso, if the match wasn't such a blow out perhaps slumlord doesn't hope I'm the slum mobile and speed to State
College and we could have been condisered.

I’ll cut Bo a break because he’s an 18 year old college kid. And maybe conditions of the NIL offer were that the amount be confidential. But being less than truthful in interviews can’t be good for his brand in the long run.

I understand math. :). After one year he would have banked 1-1.25 million. If he hangs around the summer of his 2nd year before bolting......he can up it another couple hundred grand. I got this :)

They were 100% true. Confirmed with people in his camp and college coaches.
Please tell me you also have it on good authority that PSU offered a good bit less. Sorry, I don’t typically listen to podcasts, so if you don’t want to share what’s in it I certainly get it.

They do speak to that around the 16:35 mark.

He said that the offers were comparable. That leaves it open to interpretation.
You can compare a Ford and a Bentley. I farmer in Kansas may say they are comparable. A hedge fund manager may say they are not. It is word-smithing. It is done all the time.

Said it wasn’t even half.

I have to admit to being a bit disappointed that PSU would even come close to offering half of what's been reported. I guess I'm just a dinosaur because I really think these sorts of numbers being thrown at high school kids is ridiculous (and probably damaging to the sport), but geez..........

Still on record that I don't blame Bassett at all and still fairly lukewarm about the outcome (and think I would have been mostly lukewarm about hid decision even if it were PSU).

I am OK with the idea PSU maybe offered half of what Iowa offered. If true it tells me PSU is financially positioned to play this game.

We already know Cael believes it is important to be positioned to play this game otherwise there wouldn't have been a need for Clay.

I'm assuming the tax man will have his say in what amount is left over to be deposited into said bank account.

I hadn’t considered that Bo had to say the offers were comparable as they were negotiating and driving up the price. Sorry kid; my bad.

Exactly. If he received that offer from any of the 4 schools he could have said I was always a fan of that school. Except maybe VT

All offers were in USD. None in Euros, Pounds, Pesos, Yen, or Canadian funny money. Therefore comparable.

Rousseau is a Burgundy. Comparable to Bordeaux but not the same. 😉

I am still calling BS on $5M. Penn State's wrestling Operating Revenue was only $2.4M. I know the two are completely unrelated but I still just to buy the numbers for any NIL that are bandied around

It is the only reason I can honestly come up with. I know I am a homer but DT and Cael are such better alternatives. What a f-ing let down for him once the glow of the cash fades.
