The Penn State 365 Pod reacts to top ranked recruit Bo Bassett choosing Iowa over Penn State Wrestling and others.
The pressure will really be on the coaches now. If a can't miss recruit does not live up to everyone expectation. They may be done.![]()

Consider this: Bo may have made a genius move. Accept the unheard of 5 million dollar offer. Then I redshirt the first year while collecting a chuck of that NIL money. After that first year.....I am already a millionaire. Then.....I transfer to the college I really wanted to go to that will develop me to the fullest. That colleges' offer will be easily over a million. I get my 4 years of development but start with 1 + million in the bank....collecting interest. In the words of an Iowa expert....."Book It"![]()
It’s $5 million over 4-5 years, not an up front payment and once you leave those payments stop.Consider this: Bo may have made a genius move. Accept the unheard of 5 million dollar offer. So the rumors about Iowa swooping in with $5M were actually true? Bo basically said money was the same everywhere. Not sure what to think or believe.
They were 100% true. Confirmed with people in his camp and college coaches. So the rumors about Iowa swooping in with $5M were actually true? Bo basically said money was the same everywhere. Not sure what to think or believe.
I understand math. It’s $5 million over 4-5 years, not an up front payment and once you leave those payments stop.
Please tell me you also have it on good authority that PSU offered a good bit less. Sorry, I don’t typically listen to podcasts, so if you don’t want to share what’s in it I certainly get it.They were 100% true. Confirmed with people in his camp and college coaches.
They do speak to that around the 16:35 mark. Please tell me you also have it on good authority that PSU offered a good bit less. Sorry, I don’t typically listen to podcasts, so if you don’t want to share what’s in it I certainly get it.
He said that the offers were comparable. That leaves it open to interpretation. So the rumors about Iowa swooping in with $5M were actually true? Bo basically said money was the same everywhere. Not sure what to think or believe.
Said it wasn’t even half.
Thanks, 82rousseauHe said that the offers were comparable. That leaves it open to interpretation.
You can compare a Ford and a Bentley. I farmer in Kansas may say they are comparable. A hedge fund manager may say they are not. It is word-smithing. It is done all the time.
I am OK with the idea PSU maybe offered half of what Iowa offered. If true it tells me PSU is financially positioned to play this game.I have to admit to being a bit disappointed that PSU would even come close to offering half of what's been reported. I guess I'm just a dinosaur because I really think these sorts of numbers being thrown at high school kids is ridiculous (and probably damaging to the sport), but geez..........
Still on record that I don't blame Bassett at all and still fairly lukewarm about the outcome (and think I would have been mostly lukewarm about hid decision even if it were PSU).
I'm assuming the tax man will have his say in what amount is left over to be deposited into said bank account.I understand math.. After one year he would have banked 1-1.25 million. If he hangs around the summer of his 2nd year before bolting......he can up it another couple hundred grand. I got this

Are you saying rich people still pay taxes? Who knewI'm assuming the tax man will have his say in what amount is left over to be deposited into said bank account.
Exactly. If he received that offer from any of the 4 schools he could have said I was always a fan of that school. Except maybe VTWho knows. I honestly don't care and won't lose one second's sleep over it, but I have to think that Bo was being less than honest when he said that the offers were comparable. Hey, I'm sure Iowa has some redeeming features, but it's hard to imagine that he'd make that decision absent the money. That said, it's his decision and people do things for any number of reasons.
Rousseau is a Burgundy. Comparable to Bordeaux but not the same. 😉Thanks, 82rousseau
All offers were in USD. None in Euros, Pounds, Pesos, Yen, or Canadian funny money. Therefore comparable. He said that the offers were comparable. That leaves it open to interpretation.

And, if we are talking Chambertin, probably more expensive.Rousseau is a Burgundy. Comparable to Bordeaux but not the same. 😉
Yeah, like Bassett expensiveAnd, if we are talking Chambertin, probably more expensive.
I am still calling BS on $5M. Penn State's wrestling Operating Revenue was only $2.4M. I know the two are completely unrelated but I still just to buy the numbers for any NIL that are bandied around
You have to be waaaay richer than 5 mill before taxes are disavowed. Are you saying rich people still pay taxes? Who knew![]()
It is the only reason I can honestly come up with. I know I am a homer but DT and Cael are such better alternatives. What a f-ing let down for him once the glow of the cash fades. They were 100% true. Confirmed with people in his camp and college coaches.
