What Types of People Campaign for Appointed Positions on the Board of Trustees……
and Why does it matter?
Types of BOT Appointees:
The STATUS CLIMBER/SYCOPHANT:
Current/Recent Examples: Todd Rucci/Kathleen Casey
Look at a position on the BOT as a means of access to the “elite”. Hoping to build their resume with a position that “sounds” important. Likely to perform the role of empty suit once appointed. Will never promote an independent thought or agenda, and will certainly NEVER oppose their “betters”.
The GOD’S GIFT:
Current/Recent Examples: Joel Myers/Karen Peetz
They just “know” they are better than you. Usually come from money (most often acquired via Corporate Welfare or Inheritance). So familiar with people bowing down to serve them, they actually believe their own caricatures. Could not possibly imagine being in the “minority”, or in any position where they didn’t get their way (even if it required them to adopt ridiculous positions in order to be part of the “majority”).
The FOX IN THE HENHOUSE:
Current/Recent Examples: Mark Dambly/Ira Lubert
See their position only through the filter of “what can I get out of this?” The type who donate $1 to philanthropic causes…..so long as it opens a door to putting $1,000,000 in their own pockets. Conniving, weaselly scoundrels. As opposed to the “God’s Gifts”, in their heart-of-hearts they DO know they are scoundrels…..they just don’t care anymore.
The MEGALOMANIAC:
Current/Recent Examples: Keith Eckel/Dicky Dandrea
As much as they may enjoy the “fruits” of power…..they truly thrive on the power for its own sake. They react to the possession of power the way a 17 year old boy reacts to the possession of an erection. It controls them. It consumes them. And when they have it, they are blissful. It drives them with a singular purpose…..much like an addiction to a narcotic. Eventually campaign for Committee Chairs or Board Chairs (which arm would Dicky Dandrea cut off for the Board Chair Seat?)
Many of our current BOT appointees exhibit characteristics that cross over these demographic lines…..but all of them share a common bond.
Whether their “passion” is STATUS, JUSTIFICATION, GREED, or POWER, all of these folks will never achieve their goal without first becoming “one of the majority”. None of these personalities could exist as an independent thinker, as a righteous advocate…..and certainly not as a member of the minority.
Folks often ponder just how it has come to pass that NONE of the Scoundrels has ever experienced a “Grinch Moment” (you know, the one where the Grinch actually grows a heart). The answer is actually pretty simple….the types of folks we see appointed to this Board – the Status Climbers, The God’s Gifts, the Foxes, or the Megalomaniacs – just don’t have it in their DNA. The very reasons they are on this Board preclude them from EVER standing for a righteous, minority position.
It also explains why they will cling to maintain these positions – to their last breath – even when they are clearly not wanted. Particularly the “old” Alumni Trustees – the ones who were enthroned before “we” started paying attention (Joel Myers / Paul Suhey / Stephanie Devinney?), and were essentially the same personality types as the other appointed Scoundrels.
