Amazed that he stuck around. I actually thought of the three he would have been the one that would have been promised the best chance at the QB job.

I guess it was a good problem to have but I am surprised it didn't become a problem at all. Miller would have probably started @ FSU if he made that choice.

This is a classic case where an athlete should be allowed to transfer without sitting out a year. He's probably being squeezed out of the QB position.

That's why his decision surprised me originally so much. I am pretty sure he would have been Florida's State's starter right away. He is already graduated.

I wonder if there's a possibility that his shoulder really isn't all the way back to throwing shape. The guy is a good athlete so this move might be better for a chance at the NFL.

That's a good point and would be something that makes sense. I guess they think he can be a Percy Harvin type. I knew he was athletic but that is pretty crazy to expect that.

This article says it was his idea. Initially a fall back plan in case his shoulder didn't heal. It makes sense since he was never going to be an NFL quarterback. Perhaps he has a chance as a receiver or even a tight end or maybe even a fullback ala Robinson.

It is even better news for PSU. We were able to contain Barrett last year, but we have never been able to contain Braxton. It was painful to watch him when things broke down and he would take off and make people miss tackles all over the field. Should be much easier to contain as a H back. I'm sure Urbie will have some trick and razzle dazzle plays for him.

He made the best play because he was targeted for medical dismissal. Urbs relented because the last kid went public and ruined the climate temporarily.

Miller has to know he has no NFL future as a QB with a throwing shoulder in that condition, which prob explains best why he did not transfer to a place with less competition. Of the 3 options they have, he worried me the least under center but put him anywhere else on offense with his background and it becomes a good weapon.

Good heavens. He says he went to Urban with the idea. I guess we shouldn't believe him even though he proposed the idea months ago and says it would be a couple of months before he would be totally healed to throw.

Riddle me this. Why would Urban dismiss one of his best athletes?

I can't see that at all. That would have been a disaster all the way around. Especially considering all that Miller has done to help their program and he has been a good team player all the way through. That could have turned into a PR nightmare.

Given BM's propensity for getting hit and then pretending to be hurt by writhing in pain, I'm surprised he didn't change to a Thespian..

I actually think this makes them more dangerous to defend. He would be a threat to throw the ball off a wide pitch or backwards screen giving him running room. He is a terrific athlete. Personally I'm guessing this is all about draft-ability but either way he will be tough to defend

Braxton won't be able to fully throw for 2-2 1/2 more months. For those of you who need a little help with math, that puts him ready to start throwing 100% in late September to mid October. That's why he was never transferring and that's why he's not playing quarterback.

I agree that the suggestion that Meyer would have ever dismissed him is off the wall crazy but this "math" wasn't always on this timeline. LSU and FSU would have taken him in a minute. There was a chance he would have been ready. So you are wrong with the "never transferring" thing because of the math. I agree with you when it comes to suggesting that he might have been dismissed. That would have NEVER happened.

No, the math wasn't always in that timeline. But the math was that he wouldn't be throwing until about now, give or take a few weeks, at best. And it never made sense for him to transfer if he couldn't throw. LSU or FSU might have taken him, but he wouldn't know if he'd be able to throw at a level that would win him any jobs. If he had to change positions, why wouldn't he stick where he knows the coaches, the culture and the coaches know exactly what he's capable of doing?

I would have given him a puncher's chance at the fsu quarterback job.

I'm not sure about that FSU also has the ND transfer so I don't think it would be a given than Miller would be the starter.

Setting aside the fact that Miller could have transferred under the graduate transfer rule without sitting out, I don't understand your point.
Are you saying an athlete that gets beaten out should be able to transfer without sitting out? Talk about chaos if that were the case.

Actually, that's the case in most NCAA sports, excepting football and basketball. It surprised me when I found that out. It's how Coach Warming's son (soccer) was able to transfer to PSU to continue to play for his dad.

Yes, most NCAA sports. Not the revenue sports.

Old Urban is now hedging. Says no decision made since he hasn't seen him work as a wide out. He heard he may be practicing but wouldn't know since he is not allowed to watch...LOL! Daddy Braxton also says QB is his son's position and he was just looking for a way to help the team if his shoulder wasn't quite right early on. Brax will apparently see Dr. Anderson shortly. Yogi says stay tuned.

It's probably the best move for Braxton and his future as he wasn't going to be an NFL qb.

Barrett is Ohio State's best thrower, Jones has the strongest arm and is hardest to bring down, but Miller was the hardest to defend because of his elusiveness and quickness.

Miller could have transferred as a graduate student so no issue there.

Meyer didn't want him to leave, so no issue regarding Miller being dismissed from the team.

Miller is as per scheduled throwing the football , but won't even try to throw it at full velocity until Fall camp.

The best situation for all concerned is for Miller to get some reps and plays as an H-back or receiver early in the year, and then get some reps in games as a change of pace QB later in the season- when he is 100%. This way he gets to showcase his talents both as a QB and as an athlete to the pros, gets to be a major contributor to the offense, and cuts the QB race to a manageable two.
