An investigation shows Richard Strauss abused at least 177 Ohio State students and university officials knew about Strauss' misconduct as early as 1979, but failed to act or investigate.

So I just want to make sure I have my facts straight:
  1. Penn State - zero student athletes claimed sexual abuse by a former employee, one witness on campus reported it up the chain of command and to a mandated reporter (Raykovitz) ... largest fine and second worst sanctions in NCAA history
  2. Michigan State - 280 student athletes claimed sexual abuse by a current employee, 13 reported it to MSU admin who did nothing ... no action from the NCAA
  3. Ohio State - 177 student athletes claimed sexual abuse by a current employee, university personnel had knowledge of complaints and did nothing ... still TBD but would be SHOCKED if the NCAA did anything
If this doesn't make your blood boil I don't know what to say. It also speaks volumes for exactly how incredibly moronic the OGBOTs handled the situation. Once again, I am sure MSU and OSU studied how PSU handled it and then did the exact opposite.

Great post. This situation has really created a negative view, on my part, of institutional decision making. Corruption, higher learning, college athletics, administrators, the NCAA and the entire media infrastructure can go screw themselves.

Absolute bizarro world. Can't make this stuff up.

Just remember, Delaney said he wanted “ to protect “ PSU by bringing in MD and Rutgers.

Well, one from MSU helped drive the NCAA’s handling of the Penn State situation.

And let’s not forget the PSU situation was plastered on every news outlet all over the place for days on end...the others? Meh.

A lot of "poor me" comments. How about prayers for the victims and their families? Disgusting news out of Columbus. Saddening

Allow me to clarify this.
  • Zero victims (student athletes or otherwise) reported abuse to a Penn State administrator.
  • Every person the "witness" talked to denys being told about sexual assault.

That last part is what has really changed my view. I never knew how bad the media was until our incident. I have never looked at the "news" the same way. In fact i have pretty much abandoned it all together for the most part.

But but but... he made it clear what he meant

Let me preface this with: I neither have, nor am I familiar with the Tweeter.

That said, can someone not post this ^ to the Tweeter of EVERY ESPN/FS1/NBCSN on-air personality, researcher and executive and ask them why there's no coverage on their respective networks about it, and why they aren't being journalists and asking Delaney and Emmert why the above is the case? Why are "journalists" not holding Emmert and Delaney to task over this?

Could not agree more. Since 2011 I have watched the minimal amount of "news" that I can. Which ticks off my wife to no end since she is a HUGE fan of CNN. TBH if it wasn't for visiting this site I would know very little what is happening in the "outside world" which is just fine by me!

I feel sorry for the victims of Strauss and their families, but at the same time I am increasingly pissed at the disparity in NCAA/B1G actions over the past eight years.

totally. the press is a cabal of lemmings. They move to whatever "talking points" drive emotional interest regardless of the truth. Having said that, from time to time, there is good research and investigation and journalism. the problem is, it is almost impossible to discern one from the other...as such, the observer has to throw it all out. This is a real problem as you try to get the truth on political issues. I always go back to read direct quotes now. If seen so many outright lies that it is really, really scary.

Don't forget about the irony of Lou Anna Simon's remarks.

Perfect summary. In business world you avoid pitfalls such as first adopter of new technology or the rush to market with high profile product. You open yourself to a slew of compliants and issues while all the improvements and lessons are gifted to second wave. Unfortunately PSU was the 'first to market' in the NCAA child abuse scandals and no matter how much worse for MSU and OSU, the media will simply never apologize nor have the locust mentality that Joe and PSU endured. Sad.

Totally nuts. It pays to not be first I guess.

I think (sure as he11 hope) everyone's praying for the victims and their families. This is disgusting news and saddening.

But also, this is a Penn State message board. I agree our outrage isn't a good look, especially when compared to the remorse and sympathy we all feel for the victims. But IT IS safe to assume we all feel that sympathy and remorse. So the "poor me" comments are made by other victims; ones seeing other (relatively worse) atrocities without the rage and ultra-punitive response. For the most part, it's crickets. This will be here today and gone tomorrow for most. We're at least taking an interest in these other atrocities and the story. In 5 years, most will still only remember the anomaly at Penn State and know what a rapist-enabler a great man now-departed once was.

So you're right in saying the focus should be on the victims of these crimes. It should be. But there's also room to express frustration with other injustices.
