Brendan Mahon and Andrew Nelson will be returning in 2017

SO it's a mixed blessing. Great depth for next year, but sounds like there will be a real roster limit for any late commitments (which might limit our ability to sign additional folks) unless some players are leaving.

..but that means two more slots for the Class of 2018.

Well......

Either they will be able to re-hab to the point of being able to play or not.
And, certainly, no one can say for sure whether they will be able to or not (especially wrt Nelson - given his "snake-bit" injury history.)

Probably won't know for sure until well after LOI day (at least for Nelson)

Here's to best wishes on each wrt their recoveries (including whatever the F it is that bit Mahon) ......even if just Mahon comes back, that would be a big boost.

The depth of our OL is going to be rather incredible

21 total O linemen on the roster for 2017, provided nobody transfers or leaves, including the 4 walkons who are coming back next year.

Trust me, it's a tight unit, these guys LOVE Limegrover and hang out together all the time. Bit by bit, inch by inch, getting better one day at a time...

Possible early departures to the NFL seem to be Godwin, Sickels, and Allen. Of course I'd like to see them all return. I've been surprised before but I don't think players like Blacknall, Hamilton, and Haley would project high in the draft.

I saw Godwin projected as the 155th overall prospect, 20th WR. Sickels would probably be a 4th or 5th round pick. Allen is a bit of a mystery. He is PSU's leading tackler and has great instincts but not great top end speed from what I've read.

Nobody on this team is coming out early to go in the 5th round. These guys know who Deion Barnes is, and they remember what Larry Johnson did, and they are more educated in the value of staying an extra year and improving your draft grade. Mike Gesicki, Jason Cabinda, Brendan Mahon, and Andrew Nelson have all elected to stay another year and improve their stock...that's 4 for 4 so far. Yes, someone COULD leave early, but the prevailing notion right now, is that the makeup of this team, is different from teams of the past: These guys THINK differently, and these guys ARE different. Everything shows that, from the camaraderie off the field, to the results on the field, they are different.

Nobody is calling Larry Johnson for advice, and nobody is confused about what could happen.

One of the BWI writers states that Godwin will announce for the NFL after the Rose Bowl game. That will open up a scholarship. We are deep at WR so hopefully we can use this as a position of need in this class.

Well, if that is the case, then Chris will hopefully shine in his final game, against Adoree Jackson, who will also be playing on Sundays' next year. Adoree will be matched up on Chris all day long on Monday, so lots of chances to show the scouts what #12 in Blue can do!

I can't verify if it was a month but guns did say these guys were coming back a few weeks ago. Too hard to search for a link
I don't think this is news. I think I recall this being reported already. I see that Pickel seems to consider it news. In any case, no one 'called' it. Guessed it maybe or had someone tell them it was gonna happen. This was no Kreskin scenario a month ago. I could be wrong.

Does this mean that once again no redshirts will be prematurely burned? That won't be well received.

Now I remember (because I did a search). Gummy started a thread late in the evening on Fri. Dec.16, around 11:30 PM. Said Mahon and Nelson would be back. Said he did not have a link at the time. I had gotten an email at around 10 AM that same morning from 247 in which Sean Fitz posted that both Nelson and Mahon would be returning. I looked at the 247 board and there was Fitz's post, filed over 12 hours before Gummy started a thread with the same info but saying there was no link.

I responded to Gums about the email I had received and the thread at 247 that Fitz had started. Gums did not respond which was surprising.

Case closed. I have documentation. Gummy did not 'call' anything. The info was out there 12 hours before at 247 and it was not premium.

maybe but if you aren't on the 247 board, it would be news to those that aren't. I don't know the big deal either way, and I don't know why the Germans didn't attack Pearl Harbor when this thread started.

Well....aside from that:

What the hell else were they gonna' do between then and now?

Aside from saying "I've just dealt with too many injuries....I'm gonna' hang 'em up"

Water is wet!!!!! Fact!!!!!!

I called it!!!!!

"I called this a month ago." is entirely different than ...

"I posted this a month ago."

Similar to a long argument about whether or not salt and pepper are seasonings, words matter. So I know you care about accuracy. You do recall that thread, don't you?:) If any thread needed to be burned to the ground it was that one.

Many here surf the 247 board. You must have noticed hundreds of posts here mentioning CBs which are sourced from 247. One particular poster claims that a CB from Wilfong and Sean Fitz is gold.

what's a CB? and as far as I am concerned, salt and pepper are seasonings, so if you say, 'the finest steaks houses don't even use seasonings, they let the meat stand for itself', and you reply 'hmmm who knew, the finest steak houses don't use salt and pepper' , that shouldn't lead into a pissing battle over nouns, verbs, minerals and seasoned fries, but I guess it does.

"Nouns, Verbs, Minerals, and Seasoned Fries" sounds like a great album title for a band....

No, none of us can say. But it is a reasonable assumption that both Mahon and Nelson have gotten positive reports from their doctors that they can rehab their injuries and be ready to play football for PSU in the Fall of 2017. Why else would they be coming back? They are coming back to play. Orthopedic surgeons have seen it all and can predict reasonably well the outcomes from any injury or combination of injuries.

Now could they get re-injured? Sure. But at this point, with the injuries that they are currently recovering from, they are coming back to play in 2017.

I expect they are both hoping that they can recover from whatever maladies currently afflict them, to the point that they can once again participate in D1 football, at PSU (maybe that isn't correct - but that is what I think)
:)

I see no reason to beleive that they have not talked over their odds of participating in 2017 with CJF. And CJF values scholarships and the impact that using scholarships on player that are not playing can have on his roster. So I believe that if their doctors advised anything other than a normal recovery from their injuries they would not have announced that they are returning.....

And therefore I believe it is more than a "hope" or chance that they play in 2017. But that they will be on track to play, both of them, baring any unforeseen additional injuries.

smh I read post , 'You must have noticed hundreds of posts here mentioning CBs which are sourced from 247. One particular poster claims that a CB from Wilfong and Sean Fitz is gold.'

and I don't know what you are referring to here. and thus the question, what is a CB?
