Brendan Mahon and Andrew Nelson will be returning in 2017

smh I read post , 'You must have noticed hundreds of posts here mentioning CBs which are sourced from 247. One particular poster claims that a CB from Wilfong and Sean Fitz is gold.'

and I don't know what you are referring to here. and thus the question, what is a CB?
Crystal Ball predictions at 247 of which college a recruit will attend, a common reference here in recruiting threads.

I see no reason to beleive that they have not talked over their odds of participating in 2017 with CJF. And CJF values scholarships and the impact that using scholarships on player that are not playing can have on his roster. So I believe that if their doctors advised anything other than a normal recovery from their injuries they would not have announced that they are returning.....

And therefore I believe it is more than a "hope" or chance that they play in 2017. But that they will be on track to play, both of them, baring any unforeseen additional injuries.

thanks, I don't normally read recruiting threads, chasing after 16/17 year olds is for someone else to worry about.
'Chasing' ? That was a passive insult to a large part of this site's community.

Persons who say things like that usually have something they say bite them in the ass later on. Remember how we agreed words matter? Following and chasing are not the same thing (much like 'anyone' and 'everyone' have different meanings as noted by a poster regarding a Tim Curley email -- I read the scandal threads too).

there I corrected it for you.

It is. They will provide needed depth to the young starters.

If they are both totally recovered they will both start, with the young OL talent backing them up and giving them breaks. A nice position to be in for the team - an experienced starting OL and great young talent pushing them for playing time.

Who knows?

If they are both back to where they were pre-injury:
I can't imagine the Mahon of October 2016 being anything other than a starting OT on the 2017 team
I can imagine - though one never knows for sure - that a couple of the other guys (particularly if Bates stays at OT, which I don't expect, but which COULD happen) might have moved (or will move) ahead of where Nelson was when he went down

Too many variables for now. Just give me the best five come August. I feel good about it.

Agree. Just my opinion, but I see Bates as a good OT, but as a really good OG; his mobility and speed enable him to spring backs and receivers down field.

Me too. I see Bates, McGovern and Menet starting inside next year, with Gonzo the super sub inside. And then Mahon, Nelson, Fries and the rest giving us great OT depth, and the health of Mahon and Nelson going a long way in determining who starts at OT.

if there was anyone on the roster this year they would have played. Nelson and Mahon were ahead because they were the best we had. no coach is going to keep their best players off the field = that is how you get fired. if both are at full strength and healed, then you will see them at the tackles with Bates back to guard. McGovern to center and the other guard is either Wright or some other new player. Wright won the RT spot this year and assume if there were someone better they would have been playing. he seems better for guard.

That would be nice. Bates' position flex gives us many options going forward. He looks like a young Zack Martin and allows for the legitimate best four other guys to compete and find homes. That is going to be one nasty, awesome competition.

Adding the three redshirt freshmen and we will actually have a solid 2 deep
Finally

But that was the deal given the situation that was in place in 2014
They've actually improved at a solid year ahead of schedule - - but it's still not where it will be in 2018 or so
