Brisker is coming back (link)

Levis is a short yardage specialist. I know that's difficult to figure out. They wouldn't be using him like that if they thought his primary value was QB.

You appear to lack in your people skills. Did you struggle with that when you coached as well?

Right, which is why I specifically said I hope Yurcich does Not feel the same way about running the QB when he gets here.

Whatever he was doing in Texas (the QB ran as much as Clifford, if not more) attracted the top QB (top player) in the 2022 class (Quinn Ewers). Sure he decommitted and committed to Ohio State, but because the staff he committed to at Texas was very much on the hot seat. I think you are putting too much emphasis in the wrong areas. These are football players. They want to play and win. They see guys like Lamar Jackson. And they see the NFL moving toward QBs who can run. They want to play that way because they want to get to the NFL.

Are we positive that Wade is leaving? I don’t think he has formally announced anything yet. We thought Brisker was leaving until he came out and said he was staying.
My understanding is it’s best for him to move on. Wink

Yeah 11 wins in 2016, 2017 and 2019. Spoiled “fans” DESERVE better.
You’re happy with 11 wins when it easily could have been 12 is the problem. Happy with 4 when at least 5 this year? Anyone can be a B student, especially if they are content to be above average.

His in game management is below average, that’s obvious to anyone with half a clue and it’s been like that for years. It’s easily fixable, but 7 years later here we are. Too much to hope he fixes it? My bad. It’s a running joke on any gambling site with people who aren’t affiliated with the program. It’s laughable. I can guarantee you Franklin is not content with 11 or 4 wins, so why should you or I be?

But, I have read here on this board that at PSU all good players leave as soon as they can for the nfl and the portal is a one way street out of town here.

Being an elite fan has a direct correlation to on the field success. I urge everyone to begin training for next season. We have a challenge if we wish to compensate for "below average" game management. We must no longer settle for being "laughable."
How can any of us ever be happy?

Man, such a shame. Marshall, I am going to go ahead and put you on ignore. I know you won't care and that's cool, but I care. I would have really appreciated learning some football stuff from you outside of "don't ever criticize the coaches" "elite Fans" "rabble rabble." It's stale and exhaustive and candidly I can't deal with it anymore. Its a GD blog, fans are going to write about their perspectives and observations, its normal, even if their perspectives are "outlandish" in your mind.

This was my exact mentality when I finally had to put marshall on ignore. I wanted to hear what he had to say. But it became apparent he was not interested in a discussion. Too bad. I don't know why he has taken this hard line position re: criticizing coaches. Heck, there's not a coach alive who would join him in his claim that EVERY decision made by EVERY coach is the correct decision.

Try looking at thinks objectively and not through only rose colored glasses for once.

Have you ever been a boss and had to give performance reviews to employees? If you have, then you’d know that there is always something one can improve, and for JF in game management is obvious and would be a topic of discussion.

Im a little concerned you have watched the games for 7 years and have yet to even admit this is even a slight issue.

No, I’m not the fire Franklin crowd, but if you can’t see the obvious then I can’t help you. Whatever it is in life, the most ignorant people in this world are those who choose to be subjective. Look at politics these days as a great example.
I’m an alum, I pay for tickets to go to games which goes to a coaches salary and I donate money to the school. Therefore, yes, I have a right to speak my mind.

It needs to get better, period. You’re a smart guy, and a good dude. Objectivity never hurt though.

Just about every fan base complains about clock management and in game management. It’s a lot easier to armchair coach when you’re only concerned with your beer, your nachos and making sure you are smarter than our staff.

There is a lot happening on the sidelines. I remember many times the sideline confusion leading to a timeout — when Paterno was in charge.

It’s really easy to second guess when things don’t work out. When they do work out, nobody notices.

Honestly, why do you come to this message board? All you do is complain about all the people here and everything they say. Why bother?

Actually, I've been a "boss" in athletics for more than 20 years. Very few people are the absolute best version of themselves. James Franklin is about as good as it gets. PSU will not do better than him. But you all can help him anyway.

Let's set up an offensive system as follows:

-We will have two coaches in the box - one to call running plays and one to call passing plays (nobody knows who decides whether it will be a run or pass, but that's another issue).

-Then, we will have those coaches relay their play call down to another coach on the sideline.

-That 3rd coach will then give the play call to a player who will run into the huddle and relay the call to the QB who will then repeat the call to the other players in the huddle.

-At any time during this process, the head coach (who is not on headphones talking with the other coaches), can simply pull a player aside, make his own call, and send him into the huddle.

Yep, all the great offensive masterminds in football used that system. I mean, what could go wrong?

Or....You could have a computer program that takes into account an opponents defensive tendencies.....odd, even front...slant...read and react....games twists....blitzes and stunts....coverages and personnel packages...then program in down and distance, hash etc. and the computer then produces your plays that predict the most success in those situations? I'll bet no one ever thought of that......

Great! So in his performance review, would you give him 5 stars across the board and tell him he is perfect? If not, what would you critique about his tenure?

Good, smart decision. Should help to increase his draft stock. I hope he avoids injury on his way to a big NFL payday.
