Wow!!! What a post-season this guy is having.
What an absolute freak. He’s done everything expected of him - and more.Wow!!! What a post-season this guy is having.
Strange results. Phillies were 14 games behind the Mets and Braves. They lost 4 games to the Cubs in September.Wow!!! What a post-season this guy is having.

I agree. The number of teams in the playoffs is ridiculous. MLB has done everything it can to ruin the sport.Strange results. Phillies were 14 games behind the Mets and Braves. They lost 4 games to the Cubs in September.
The Padres were 22 behind the Dodgers. 22 games behind and they win a 5 game series and eliminate a team that destroyed them during the season?
Is this an equitable path to the World Series?
Why play 162 games in the regular season?
Yes, I am a frustrated Dodger fan.

They sure have done that. Same will happen with the CFP.I agree. The number of teams in the playoffs is ridiculous. MLB has done everything it can to ruin the sport.
Yeah, ratings are highest they’ve been in 5 years and the games have been so boringThey sure have done that. Same will happen with the CFP.
Actually, the Padres closer was in the BP. Dumb move not bringing in Hader a lefty to face Harper.Sure did look like the Padre's closer got caught "in the moment" and locked in a mano y mano personal battle with Harper that he didn't need to have. He lost and the Padre's didn't live to fight another day. As Frank Thomas commented, it just seemed very unnecessary to tug on Superman's Cape - I think he got too engaged in getting Harper after getting to 0-1 and then 1-2, but he began playing with fire by giving Harper 4 or 5 pitches in the strike-zone..... and he got burned bigtime. Have to agree with the Big Hurt - it was hard to believe seeing that many driveable pitches being thrown to Harper - very surprised they didn't "pitch around" him (not intentionally walking him, but by keeping everything off the plate.... if he shows the discipline not to swing, so be it, you walk him.... but you don't put the game on the line and let him beat you like that).
I agree, as a Phillies fan. 162 games is a massive season. If mlb wants bigger playoffs, it should shorten the season. Any team can win a 3 game series. It's really hard for a worse team to win a 7game series. After 162 games, if mlb can't find a way to play all 7 game series, it shouldn't have them.Strange results. Phillies fan here also. One of the problems is that teams have to make money in the pre season also. That needs to be shortened (in football too) and maybe a few less days off before reducing games because reducing games in the regular season, all records will have asterisks. But if that's what it takes to finish the games by the end of October, so be it. Better to power through bad weather in the spring than sleet in the fall. Phillies got burned in 2011 when a hot Cards team with 2 pitchers upset them in a 5 game series. The Cards wouldn’t have even been in if the Phillies - with nothing to play for - didn’t sweep the Braves at the end of the season - allowing the Cardinals to sneak in.I agree, as a Phillies fan. 162 games is a massive season. yup. Really hate that a team needs 4-5 competent starters to win its division, but only 2ish to make a deep run in the playoffs. Big disconnect there.Phillies got burned in 2011 when a hot Cards team with 2 pitchers upset them in a 5 game series. Maybe, but MLB went to 162 games in 1962. Prior to that it was 154. Should Aaron have an asterisk because he had 8 more games a season than Ruth?
Probably. Barry Bonds, Mark Maguire and Samy Sosa should all have asterisks along with Roger Clemmens and whoever else did what they did. In the grand scheme of life it doesn't matter, it would probably create more discussion and interest.
Sorry I don't go back that far but did the World Series extend into November back then? My goal would be to have the last world series game no later than October 31st.

Interestingly, Ruth played 22 seasons and Aaron played 23, but Ruth played 2503 games while Aaron played 3298He had a lot bigger advantage than that - Hank Aaron played way more seasons than Ruth. For comparison purposes, Ruth had 8,399 at-bats to Bonds 9,847, Mays 10,881 and Aaron a staggering 12,364!
Pete Rose holds record for most at-bats with 14,053. Hank Aaron is #2 all-time at 12,364.
Did you complain when the 88 win Atlanta Braves blew through the playoffs and won the Series? How about the 82-79 Mutts in ‘73.I agree, as a Phillies fan. 162 games is a massive season. Ruth only played a few games his first season. And then he pitched quite a bit over the next five seasons.Interestingly, Ruth played 22 seasons and Aaron played 23, but Ruth played 2503 games while Aaron played 3298
first off...I'm a Phillies fan. I grew up in Allentown. Mike Schmidt was my favorite player as a kid. After suffering through the 80s, Joe Carter broke my heart in '93. I was at the bank for Game 4 in 09. I moved to STL last year and took my daughter to her first MLB game this summer when the Phils were in town. Nothing anti-Philly here. I hope they beat Houston and win the WS. Some of us are just able to separate what benefits us, from our principles.Did you complain when the 88 win Atlanta Braves blew through the playoffs and won the Series? I’m getting the feeling it’s an anti-Philadelphia thing at work here.
Should I get off your lawn, too?first off...I'm a Phillies fan. I grew up in Allentown. Mike Schmidt was my favorite player as a kid. After suffering through the 80s, Joe Carter broke my heart in '93. I have no problem with the '73 Mets or last year's 88-win Braves team. They won the NL East. Winning a division matters. If it doesn't, why do we have them?
In all sports, expanded playoffs cheapen the regular season. I'm an Phila Eagles fan, but they should not have been in the playoffs last year at 9-8. (Neither should the steelers at 9-7-1)
In MLB, until 1995, the 4 division champs went to the playoffs and played 7 game series. The World Series determined the champion of champions.
162 games is a lot. If 162 games isn't enough to determine who is the best team in a division, why play so many? We already know that the 2nd place team in a division isn't the best team in MLB. Why have them in the playoffs? (I've made the same argument about the CFB playoff and having a Conference runner-up in a 4 team playoff)
Hell, why even have divisions and a regular season as we know it? Maybe the regular season should be 80 games to decide seeding, and then have everyone play a massive march-madness style tourney that takes half the summer. HOW EXCITING!!!!
Tell me you admit defeat without telling me.Should I get off your lawn, too?
