Pirates signed Brandon Waddell.....you may recall the UVA pitcher who led their outstanding CWS runs the last two years (including this year's championship).

Was a real nice pick by the Buccos in the 5th round. With Waddell's signing, the Bucs have now signed all of their upper level draft picks.

Certainly doesn't draw the attention of the NBA and NFL drafts, since the payoff is usually several years down the road, but one of the real nice things about this current management group is their ability to consistently get all of their upper level picks signed (with the one obvious exception from a couple years back - which everyone knew was a long shot going in).

Bringing 20 decent US prospects into the lower level minors each year is a key to being able to keep the pipeline full - even if only a handful of those guys ever help out the major league club.

Good news.

I'd like to see them get more active in Cuba going forward, also

Who is Reed I quit looking at Pirate Prospects when they started charging a fee?
He's not a Pirate Prospect. I threw Reed out to see if anyone would make another connection on the names. If no one does, I'll explain it.

The Pirates have a management team. The other two names are one.
Ah, I'll just give the answer. Waddell and Reed are an asset management/financial planning company. They are traded on the New York Stock exchange and have been around since 1937.

Ok thanks but now my head is hurting real bad after figuring out the intent night.
Sometimes I get carried away. They signed Waddell. Signing Reed would be a great investment....ah, I guess I should keep my day job.

Add 5 mph and you have a 'swing & a miss' very often.

Take away 5 mph and you have home run derby compliments of a guy pitching batting practice.

He'll develop and add some zip to his delivery.

This guy may take exception to that there analysis

Let's no forget the 'Atlanta strike-zone' which gave all Atlanta pitchers and extra 2" on each side of the plate sir!

I don't know about that. I'm sure MLB rode the gravy train with ATL back in the 90s but the Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery rotation was as good as any. Inflated strike zone and all.

It got so bad even the Atlanta Braves announcers commented on it on a TV broadcast.

Braves mgm't responded by NOT allowing them to ride the same plane with the team.

MLB had to intercede and told Atlanta Braves Mgm't to knock it off!
