Some of you folks write "Bucks" in reference to Ohio State in a plural sense

You must stop dignifying tOSU this way

A buck is a majestic creature, one of the most beautiful you can ever see in nature

A buckeye is a poisonous-nut bearing tree and should never be shortened to "buck" for this is a) unfair to the majestic whitetail and b) what tOSU wants

We usually called buckeye trees "horse chestnuts" in my youth. My aunt and uncle had one in their yard. My uncle often claimed he would cut it down, for it did nothing but drop ugly and useless hairy nuts (pun intended) all over his yard. Hideous thing. just like Ohio State.

Just a primer for the Big Tens

tOSU sux

Never have I to this day called them what they want to be called which is *OSU and never will I call them that. They are OH ST. I am a fan of the bucks though. That is the North American Whitetail.

OTOH, has a buck ever shot?

Interesting that this thread was started! Not only is Iowa and their Sqwawker legion collectively near the top of my pet peeve list, but how they refer to the Hawkeyes as the "Hawks" drives me beyond insane!

Rather than have that goofy looking character, Herky the Sqwawker as their mascot, it REALLY and more accurately should just be one big giant eye, as they are the HawkEYES, not the Hawks.

Rant over...NOW!

A little story from a PSU'er in the middle of Buckeye country:

I live in Columbus OH and send my kids to school in Penn State gear every Friday during Football season because it's "Buckeye Day". They go to the same elementary and are well known, as am I to the administration. Last year, two of my daughters friends spent the night on a Friday, coming to our house directly from school, and asked why I didn't like Ohio State like everyone else. I explained, in general, that I grew up near Happy Valley and used to go to every home game with my family. They became instant PSU fans when I pulled out the YouTube videos of the "whiteouts", "Sweet Caroline", We ARE chants etc. The next day they begged me to get them PSU gear so they could all match and wear it to school the next Friday. The next day we went to 5 different stores with no PSU gear in their size so we resorted to Amazon Prime with the promise of my daughter delivering the t-shirts and face tattoos we ordered by that Friday.

Fast forward to the next Friday afternoon and I get a call at work from the principal. We have a great relationship and when I answered she was laughing hysterically. Apparently, the extra Penn State gear was a distraction and was causing in-class arguments as well as tiffs at lunch/recess. Sadly I had to promise to not purchase anymore PSU gear for kids that weren't my own. Everything was good until I received a text with a 45 second video of my daughters friend's Dad holding a lighter, lighter fluid and the PSU tshirt I just bought his daughter the week before. Needless to say, the shirt was no longer wearable. The other was sent back home from school neatly folded and washed the following Monday. (I'm guessing that one was caught by the mom before Dad got home)

We still crack up to this day about how I was reprimanded by the principal for illegal recruiting of underage fans (hopefully Vodka doesn't find out). Also, the guy that lit the fire is a good friend and only did so out of fun. PSU proud in Columbus and passing the torch to the next generation of PSU fans in Columbus.

Your story made my day. A somewhat similar situation-- sort of
I live in Cincinnati, and when growing up, my youngest became a Big Steelers Fan like her Dad. Every week she would wear her Steelers gear to school and take an unholy amount of crap. Best thing is, the Steelers have had the upper hand in the Steelers/Bengals rivalry since she became a fan. Now, she is finishing up her Master's at OSU.... Oh well, 1 for 2 ain't bad...... She has enjoyed her time at OSU and we rarely talk about the OSU/PSU rivalry since I told her when she went there that I couldn't root for the Bucks.:)

It is a challenge living in enemy territory and flying the colors. My mail man told me he detested my Penn State flag I flew during football season. I told him had I know his displeasure I'd have flown it all year long just to pi$$ him off.
My son was known as the OSU student who was a Penn State fan all over this area, his high school, college, etc. Stand proud, wear the colors, WE ARE and always will be PENN STATE!

This is great. We are big Steelers fans as well but I think there are more Steelers fans in Columbus than Browns or Bengals. I can only imagine living in Cincy how much crap she got. We currently live about 6 miles from OSU campus so you can only imagine the amount of Buckeye fans in close proximity. Congrats to your daughter and as much as I hate OSU athletics, their graduates have been some of the best I've hired. Thanks for sharing.
