OK OK. Last off-season we had plenty. Due to the optimism of the bowl victory, our unvaunted O looked to be on the throes of a major turn-around. It was great fun reading all the potentially good things that could happen. Then came Temple. THUD!
We never recovered. Which points out the true importance of the off-season. Getting most of the calls right, then polishing them and tweaking them once the regular season begins. U of M proved how effective that could be in no time flat. Now it's our turn.
So this coming off-season, even if we don't win our bowl match up, cant under-estimated: the early film viewing, talent re-evaluation, position changes, adjustment of who starts and who backs up, offensive scheme changes, latent talent discoveries, coming use of existing and new talent, ramped up player development , and other surprises that will make themselves felt during 2016 thanks to a new perspective on the offensive side of the ball. Plenty of sparks will fly between now and the end of 2016, for sure.
Kudos to CJF for giving Moorhead the freedom to do his thing, and for the energy Moorhead brings to the job of his lifetime ( at least so far.) Obviously, I'm encouraged, and pleased that CJF didn't go for a big-name retread, or a pro -in-waiting, but instead took a big risk on a guy who seems to have the "it" factor. IMO. it will go a long way toward determining Franklin's legacy - coming back from an earlier error in judgment.
Coach feedback (among and to each other) may also bring a synergy we have yet to see in the CJF era. For sure, there may still be some parts that don't mesh, some near-future changes, and many things to be worked out. I will leave it to CJF to smooth ruffled feathers, and patch up wounded relationships as the staff develops. He is very capable in that arena.
Now its time to enjoy the benefit of some highly effective coaching techniques and strategies. Our coaches didn't really put it together these past two seasons. I hope and suspect things are about to change - big time.
