Cael maybe can coach?

Nah, Cael has no idea what he's doing. Heck, I'm surprised he can find the front door to Lorenzo every day.

Those people cannot possibly be serious, can they?

By this metric Minkel has probably outcoached J Rob over the past 5 yrs.

Just some more bull shit. Don't see any importance to this at all..If you have the horses you should win the race.

Not true, or there would be no purpose to having championships in any sport. The favorites don't always win.
That is very true in a team event.. This is not a team event sure some upsets but I would put my money on almost every number one seed at least 80%. Only ones this year that maybe will not make finals are 141 and maybe 184. Reason this tourney should not declare team championship. Heck your team could win it with only four AA all champions with lots of bonus points don't say much about the other six weights now does it. Not looking for a long discussion on this just my opinion and you can have yours what makes this county so great at least at this time .Good luck and would guess you have it won Friday going into the semis. Reminds this old man of Gable years knew we would win and we did now it is your time to bad you had to wait since 1953 to wake up and get a coach that could keep your great local talent home.

And if you don't have the horses, someone is neglecting a very important aspect of his job.
LMAO well for over 50 years you folks In Penn sure where not doing your job come on guys this shit gets old enjoy your time did us Hawks come and give u guys some of this stuff no cause no interent lol

Not true. The Penn State teams under both Lorenzo and Fritz were pretty darn good. The only thing that kept them from bringing home the team trophy were the Iowa teams coached by Gable who, at this point in time, still has to be regarded as the greatest wrestling coach of all time. (That title is likely to change in the near future.) Gable stepping down at Iowa and Sanderson taking over at PSU was definitely a changing of the guard, but I like what is happening in a bunch of other programs too. Several schools across the US like Stanford and ASU have pulled in some good talent from PA too. All good for the sport.

Well, Stan Abel at Oklahoma, and the Iowa State program under Bobby Douglas, and the Lehigh program, and the Oklahoma State program. Also, remember that at least 15 to 20 schools who dropped the sport, were in the sport back then also, not that it was a major factor. I think not only Lorenzo and Fritz, but also Bill Koll, were very good coaches, we just didn't have the balance back then that we do now under Cael.

Interesting how the smallest things can set people off. I wrote a single sentence about how important recruiting is to a team's / coach's success in this day and age - a belief I doubt you or anyone disagrees with - and you go off the deep end.

The Tourny hasn't even started yet, minnhawkeye. I suggest you take a deep breath and chill.

and yes, numerous Hawks fans do give us "sh!t," incessantly on the notion that nobody in Pennsylvania ever cared about wrestling before Cael came, beating the drum that somehow only Iowa folks know wrestling, invented wrestling and team loyalty, etc. For well over a decade, Iowa fans had the unmatched privilege to root for the team firmly and seemingly beyond challenge on top. That train has sailed.

There's so much material in your post.
That's not a reason at all (see underlined statement). This subject has been beat to death, and you're going to simply show up and make a DECLARATION. I'm all ears for your ideas that can replace the current NCAA Championship, and get fans to show up. MSG is sold out, btw.

Pennsylvania currently has 11 of the remaining 76 D1 Colleges and Universities. Over history, another nearly 20 PA schools competed at the NCAA Championships. I'm proud that PSU is overall the 5th or 6th most successful wrestling school since the NCAA started recognizing wrestling in 1928. My point is that, for years, our talent was diluted, and in some cases kids left PA. Not a recipe for success, though only winning the 1953 Championship is surprising, that I'll give you. Now the landscape here is different. Cael is both keeping local talent and getting it elsewhere. My advice is to set aside all the bias and prejudice, and just listen to Cael (podcasts, whatever). Lot's of what he says makes sense. No doubt, we have something special here.

I like Minnhawkeye, hes a good poster in my book, but I think he may agree that his thoughts are somewhat of a push back to all the PSU fans "poohing" all over the HR consistently. Hes a good dude who might just be pushed to the edge by our internet fans.

just my opinion.

First of all, your posts are nearly incomprehensible. Secondly, to say that Penn State is only winning championships currently is solely because they are getting the best kids out of high school just doesn't make sense. There is a reason your guys have seemingly crapped out the last several years come tournament time and there is a reason that Penn State has been at it's peak. It's called understanding how to train for maximum peak performance when it counts at tournament time. Guess how that works...it's called coaching. If it was purely what you suggest, why isn't John Smith winning more titles these days...how about Tom Brands? Both have the pedigree of Cael and are bringing in horses as recruits yet they can't seem to get the job done. Guess what....that's coaching.

It's sad really...people get jealous of success, no matter where it happens and regardless of the sport. To make themselves feel better, they create excuses as to why things are the way they are. So, you can continue to make excuses but be prepared to be miserable and watch the titles continue to roll in for Penn State.

A metric only Ben Askren could love ...

Look at you showing off with a semi-colon! :)

Thanks for all the advice gentleman. I still believe that a line up of 10 wrestlers with 80% of them being ranked in top ten in their weights in high school will always beat a team that only has one and yes that is recuriting and yes Cal should and is getting the best out of Penn and that helps him get the best from other areas also. I have never said he could not coach ok.
Only have one question for you; could Tom,Terry or John do the same for you if they came to coach at Penn State? MY answer would be yes. I will live with out another title happy with 24 and at my age have to admit way it looks most likely will not live long enough to see the 25th.
Have fun in New Yorkl and I sure enjoyed visiting with many of your fans In Iowa city at the Heartland Inn.

Cael coaches at Penn State. Alex Tirapelle coaches at Penn. You wouldn't want us to mix up Iowa and Iowa State. :)

Roar, I'm pretty sure that by "Penn", he meant the state of Pennsylvania, and not the university that is just south of Chestnut Street in Philadelphia.

Sanderson has a very long way to go to equal what Gable did at Iowa both in number of championships and domination. It might happen but not in the NEAR future.

Hmm, the Pirate getting a tad sloppy with his boundaries. While the bulk of Penn is below Chestnut Street, there are some parts of Penn that are above Chestnut. There's even a collection of buildings that are part of Penn between Filbert Street and Powelton Ave, which is 3/4 blocks above Chestnut.

I know that accuracy is important to you, SHP. ;)

Sanderson doesn't necessarily need to beat Gable's championship count to be declared the greatest coach ever. There are a lot of other factors that make a great coach.
