Anybody ever slept in their car in the lot after a night game? Thinking about crashing in the car for a few hours before hitting the road.

On a related note, anyone with experience in this area know when they start to rustle stragglers out of the lots on Sunday?

I was under the impression sleeping in the car is the primary reason fold down back seats were invented. Take a blanket, pillow and one of those foam egg crate mattress toppers and you've got a traveling double bed.

Not a bad idea and you certainly wouldn't be the only one. Depending upon where you park, it'll be a nightmare getting out of the lots especially if the game goes down to the wire. Snoozing for a few hours will allow you to leave well after the traffic jam clears. I've heard the university has no problem with vehicles staying in the lots all night as long as the cars are gone by 9:00AM Sunday.

I've never done it, but I've thought about it.

The chances of me doing it in the future are very high :p

Did it a few times with night games in the past, before buying a townhouse in Happy Valley. Worked out well...got 3-4 hours of sleep & then clear sailing out. I’m surprised more folks don’t do it.

Thanks for the replies. For the record, I'm not concerned about comfort. I'm more concerned about getting locked in. Most of the yellow lots (let's be honest, the cow pastures) have locking gates. I assume they leave them unlocked until later Sunday morning.

Always could park down town and crash someone's tailgate. The way I go home if I leave right after game: 26-305-655...nice mountain drive.

this place is available on AirBnB:

Sounds like a good plan to me.

I have a related but different question. I am going to the game with one of oldest and best friends. His coworker, who I’ve met and hung out with 6-8 times but don’t know extremely well, has graciously allowed me to crash at his place on Saturday night. I will be parking my car on the street or a random lot somewhere in town. Should I be at all worried about my car or is parking/towing relatively relaxed as long as I park legally in town on Sat night?

Used to leave cars in yellow lots until our way out of town after the 4pm NFL games, and never once had an issue picking them up around 7:30pm.

There are countless places to park if you're not afraid to walk. I want to park at the stadium to tailgate all day or I would do the same. If you head out University Drive, I guess that's South, you can park on the side streets overnight.

You can also use a yellow pass to park in the East Parking deck or pay to park in Eisenhower or Nittany decks overnight.

Well, I've used parking garages before in State College with no problems. There are at least three of them available at a reduced rate after 6 PM, to 6 AM (75 cents per hour).

Thanks. We have a pass, but I will be ditching my car and meeting the rest of my group and taking one vehicle to the lot. I will be sure to park legally, but not sure if the town is super anal with overnight street parking. Sounds like I will be fine as long as I use some common sense. I’ve always parked in the stadium lots so just making sure!

Nittany Mall on the McDonald's end is another good spot to leave a car.

Was also going to ask recommendations about where to park overnight nearest to the tailgating scene.

Also, what would process be if one wants to purchase two tickets in student section - I believe there is some kind of conversion fee?

For regular student tickets you need a student ID card. Each student can purchase up to one guest ticket but I'm not sure how many of those are available. The Student Ticket Exchange is where they are supposed to be sold and that caps the price at under some number like $90. Therefore, if the game is selling well above the cap price students use a student facebook account to post. No OSU tickets are available on the Student Exchange because everyone is asking >$200 each on facebook. Here's a link.

So take a bolt cutter. Also most are dummy locked.

If I've had a few too many, I always sleep it off. Yukon + air mattress=traveling bed. Temperatures should be fine if you have a heavy enough sleeping bag.

I don't usually leave the RV lot until around 10 and for late games, there are still plenty of cars in the lots.

I've taken a couple hour nap and waited for most of the cars to get out of the parking lot and then breezed out of there a few times. Beats sitting in traffic too.

And you may not need a few hours. Sometimes an hour of sleep is enough to get you home safely. If you can sleep in the parking lot with all the post-game noise, good for you.

I'd consider it to but probably take the two hours to drive out of town about 45 minutes and go get a hotel with HV in my rearview. Good sleep, breakfast then drive home.

The big vacuum cleaners (I'm not kidding) are usually out at the break of dawn. Nobody sleeps when they are around.

Yes, did this last year after the Michigan game (white out). We were waiting for over an hour to get out of the Yellow lot (grass) and traffic didn't budge. My son and I crashed in the car, woke up at about 2:00am and the lot was empty! I guess everyone else had a lot more stamina than me.

Nobody's going to do it now that they know you have a townhouse. Party at PineIslands house!

Think it's safe to secure tickets in the tailgating lots on the day of the game? Or too big of a gamble?
