For the first time in four years, this was Carl Nassib's first formal interview at Penn State.
Seated in a black leather chair in the Lasch auditorium Wednesday, more than a dozen reporters stood surrounding the senior defensive end. Video cameras on, voice recorders pointed in his direction, and when a television news crew reached over his shoulder with a microphone, hoping to inch closer to his words, Nassib impulsively grabbed ahold of it, held it to his mouth with his right hand and answered a barrage of questions like he had been doing it for years.
The former walk-on, who is battling for a starting spot this spring, was in such a groove that when it came time for the news crew to switch to the next player, Nassib still had a tight grip on that Channel 43 mike, holding it almost like he was an emcee.
"I just took it and went with it, bro," Nassib said when he was finally asked to return it. "That's my bad."
To borrow a line from the 1978 comedy Animal House - and also one that Nassib's former head coach Bill O'Brien used on occasion: Forget it. He's rolling.
Since Nassib hadn't spoken to media before, there were many unknowns about his background and career going into the interview. How did he end up at PSU? What does he want to do after college? How did he grow from 6-foot-5, 218 pounds as a freshman to where he stands now - 6-7, 272? And maybe most importantly, is he still on scholarship?
He talks about all that the link below.
