Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that competitions have slowed a bit it is time for the annual year end update. It was a crazy year to say the least but ultimately our guys were able to compete at the National Tournament and for that we are thankful. This year with very limited competition and one of our youngest starting line ups in recent years (7 freshmen/sophomores) a lot of that growth had to take place in the wrestling room. We could not count on a full competition season to see where our guys were at and where they needed to improve so the guys next to them in the wrestling room were the ones who had to hold them accountable. There were also several times when the team was put on pause and could not use the facility, so the guys had to get creative with their training but in the end our guys did progress and gave themselves a chance to win a National Title.

Although the team came up just short of winning the Championship, four of our guys accomplished their personal goal of an individual title. When we recruit kids to Penn State, we tell them we are going to try to give them everything they need to accomplish their individual goals and if they do that then we will have a chance to accomplish some awesome things as a team. Six of our ten starters accomplished at least part of their goal by becoming an All American, but the great news is they are all going to continue to improve. With that being said though, as a staff you feel bad for the kids who did not accomplish their goals so that is why you go back and continue to try to figure out how to continually evolve and improve.

This is year twelve for our staff here at Penn State and time seems to have flown by. We have been very fortunate to coach some amazing guys and we look forward to what the next group of guys can accomplish. We have won 8 Team titles, 27 individual National Titles, have had 41 NCAA finalist and 64 All-Americans and yet still have so much more we can accomplish. We have some of the best fans in the World so just know your support makes a difference.

Lastly in NLWC news we have 7 athletes from our club who have made the Olympic Team for their respective countries and are headed to Japan in August. Thomas Gilman, David Taylor, Kyle Snyder, and Helen Maroulis all for the USA. We also have Franklin Gomez representing Puerto Rico, Jane Valencia representing Mexico, and Bekzod Abdurakhmonov for Uzbekistan. We have a pretty amazing group of men and women training here in State College and we look forward to continuing to help them accomplish their goal of Olympic Champion.

Thank you for all the continued support!

GO LIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

27 titles out of 41 finalists. Wow! That means PSU has won 66% of the time in the finals. That is impressive.

In the Cael era, the team is also 5-0 in 3rd/4rd place bouts, 8-3 in 5th/6th place bouts, and 5-2 in 7th/8th place bouts.

Added to the finals, Penn State wrestlers are 45-19 in placement bouts, for a 70% win percentage. There were years where every wrestler in a placement bout won; in 2014 they were 7-0, in 2017 they were 6-0, and in 2021 they were 6-0.

This has to be at or near the top when compared with similar schools (Iowa, OK St, etc) from 2010 til today, right? How does a prospect NOT pick PSU given these stats?

This would have been a great stat for stalemates stat war a few weeks back.

In 2012 BIGs were at Purdue and after a bad semi final round Saturday night the Lions stormed back on Sunday to win their 2nd BIG title going 13-2 (with 6 bonus point wins), including 10-0 in placement matches.

Casey wrote "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" which is 27 exclamation points.

Does it represent the 27 Individual National Titles? or the year Gilman takes over?

Something else? Discuss.
PSU-Anon level investigating... Just waiting on Casey to give us the signal 😁
