After not receiving the last one, I must have made it back on the good list. Casey just sent out a periodic update. Here it is for anyone on the naughty list.

Penn State Wrestling Fans!!!!!!!

We are officially back and are now into our 4th weekend of competition. Our guys have started the season strong against some good competition and will only continue to improve over the next few months. After this weekends match against Oregon State, we will travel to New Orleans next weekend for 3 more duals and that will conclude the first semester of competition. The season is here, and it goes very fast.

Since my last update Carter Starocci competed in his first World Championship and was able to bring home a Bronze Medal. It was the U23 World Championship in Spain and even though it was a tough trip travel wise Carter just went about his business and brought home a World Medal. Because of some travel issues we arrived at our hotel in Spain the night before the Championship started so Carter got right to work without complaining and got his weight down and competed hard the next 2 days. He lost a tough match in the semifinal but fought back with a dominate showing in his Bronze medal match. https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/10/22/wrestling-nittany-lion-wrestler-carter-starocci-wins-bronze-at-u23-worlds.aspx

On Friday night November 11 we had our first home dual of the season as we hosted Lock Haven. It was our 62nd straight sell out in Rec Hall and it was a fun night of wrestling. Lock Haven came to scrap like they always do so it made for a great dual meet. We had 3 new Freshmen in our lineup and Beau Bartlett was back down to his more natural weight of 141 so it was great to see those guys compete and it will be fun to watch their progress going forward. https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/11/11/wrestling-no-1-penn-state-opens-season-with-44-3-win-over-lock-haven.aspx

On Sunday of that same weekend, we took 12 other guys to the Binghamton open and had 8 of those 12 place in the event with Freshmen Connor Pierce leading the way with a 2nd place finish. These tournaments are a great time to see what areas our team needs to improve in, so it was a successful weekend. We will continue to try to get to some of these open tournaments going forward. https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/11/13/wrestling-pierce-leads-penn-state-contingent-at-binghamtons-bearcat-open.aspx

On November 20th we sent most of the team to West Point for the Black Knight Open and had 8 finalists with 5 Champions. It was another good weekend of wrestling where we got to see our young guys make improvements from the previous weekend and some of our other guys score a lot of points which is important in team scored events. https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/11/20/no-1-penn-state-wrestling-dominates-the-black-knight-invite.aspx

Four of our normal starters did not compete but three of them competed a couple days later in the All-Star event in Austin, Texas. All three of our guys in Austin wrestled well against very tough opponents and all showed that they have made progress from last year so that is great for us and scary for their competition : ). https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/11/22/wrestling-three-nittany-lion-wrestlers-notch-dominant-wins-at-nwca-all-star-classic-in-austin-texas.aspx

This past weekend we were able to hit the road and wrestle two very solid teams in Rider and Lehigh and were able to come out with 2 hard fought wins. Most of our guys wrestled well and a few others learned a lot from the weekend even if they did not win so it was a successful trip from both aspects. We do not get as concerned about the winning and losing but more about how they compete and if they are learning from their wins and losses. We obviously want to win every match we wrestle but there is a bigger picture. With that being said Rider had their largest athletic event crowd in school history and Lehigh sold out their venue for our match so that is great for the sport of wrestling. If you have guys that try to score points then fans will want to come watch them. It is also a testament to how well you our fans travel to these events and we greatly appreciate it.

This Sunday we have another great test for several of our guys when Oregon State comes into town. They are a tough team and they showed that last year at the Nationals, so we look forward to a great match on Sunday. https://gopsusports.com/news/2022/12/7/wrestling-notes-no-1-penn-state-hosts-oregon-state-sunday-at-2-pm.aspx

Next week are final exams so when that finishes up as mentioned above we head to New Orleans to wrap up the first semester. It has been a very quick semester already and do not expect next semester to be any slower. Our team looks forward to another sold out loud crowd this weekend so we look forward to seeing you all soon.

I love Casey, but I have to admit I was a bit crestfallen to note the use of “dominate” as an adjective. It’s like spelling Yianni—one of the few wrestling grammar mistakes that really stick in my craw.

PS, I’m going to go watch his boys wrestle now. How much will you guys pay for me to point out his error in the bleachers?

This might be my biggest grammatical pet peeve. But, since it's Casey, I guess I'll get over it.
