CFB Playoff Ratings

Pretty darn good for a TNT game, a noon game, and against a so-so opponent with very little following. You can see that being on TNT cut the audience in half.

Having our game at noon was idiotic.

Football analysts were talking about how exciting a White Our playoff game would be during the Minnesota game, two weeks before the regular season ended,

Having it at noon destroyed the entire atmosphere znd especially the visuals.

Maybe because I was able to make the trip in and out on gameday(nj) or how cold it was or how awesome the game and atmosphere were, I was happy with the noon kick ratings be damned. Just my opinion

SMU is not a marquee program. It is a school with a small student body. The game started at 11:00 am in Central Time Zone....on TNT which took me 5 minutes to find on my smart tv. PSU had Texas each had an NFL game on at the same time.

The 'best' matchup of the day was Tenn vs. tOSU in primetime on ABC and ESPN+.....so it got the best ratings.

I am sure people attending were quite happy . But a 4;00 start would have allowed for great tailgating, far more in parking lots during the game, benefited local merchants better and would have looked far, far better on tv once it got dark by halftime.

Would have probably boosted ratings since playoffs have more national interest than regular season.

And still ended early enough for people to get home at a decent time.

I totally agree with you. The problem is what day do you play the game? You don’t wanna go up against the NFL on Sunday, Saturday was full and they played a night game on Friday. The only option would’ve been to play at 4 o’clock on Friday, which would’ve been just as problematic. Unfortunately, Penn State got the short straw. And we’ve been overlooked the entire year. We still don’t get any respect which is just fine by me.

Well, the bad news is we got a horrible slot on a horrible network, the good news is we were gifted the easiest path to the semifinals

And with an NFL Game opposing it on a Major Network. I doubt many sports fans, that are only casual CFB fans, even knew a CFP Playoff Game was even on TNT.

But the geniuses at Fox say noon games get the highest ratings. I guess SMU is a bad tv draw.
The geniuses are correct. Theses games had the NFL playing at the same time and there’s a reason they don’t play on a Saturday during the season. An agreement to avoid crushing college football (and avoid anti-trust problems)

The Chiefs game had 15.5 million viewers. More than double.

I may be an outlier.....but a college playoff game versus a regular season game in the NFL.....I am watching the college playoff game.

I cheer for the Steelers and I watched about half of the Steelers and half of the Texas game.

I'm with you but I think the NFL was very smart by putting Mahomes (aka Swift) and the Ravens-Steelers as the matchups. Those are better games than two expected blowouts. It didn't help that Penn State and Texas were up big early in both.
