Franklin hinted that there will be a significant change to the offense, but didn't say what. Do we see it today? Against Pitt? Not until the meat of the B1G Ten season?

And no...I'm not a fan of going back to old, outdated 3 yards and a cloud of dust football (3 yards if you're lucky). In this age of college football you need to score quickly and often. What do you think the "change" is?

If there's going to be a big reveal during a specific game it shouldn't be for Pitt. We'll win that one regardless. My thinking is if there really is a significant change to the offense, the basics should be implemented in game #1. That way the offense can work on the nuts and bolts. More complex facets can be kept in reserve until they're needed.

QB under center?

LdN

In order of likeliest (#1) to least likeliest (#4)
  1. More 12 personnel
  2. More 2 RB sets
  3. More pre-snap motion
  4. They will keep personnel on the field in no huddle to create AND USE mismatches (remember them flanking Sanders and Barkley our but not using them?) Could see (for example) Hamler in backfield or at H, and a shuffle of WRs/TEs
All of above is pure speculation, but we have seen glimpses of all 4 above in the past.

Agree, show it right from the start and keep working on it. You have to practice new things, not wait for stronger opponents to see if the new procedures work well.

This would be a very positive development. + qb under center in certain situations.

When did he say this? This is the first I saw about any significant changes to the offense. Not calling you a liar or anything just very curious to read about it.

It was one of his interviews this past week. He said something along the lines of, and I'm paraphrasing, that they made some changes to playcalling, added some new formations, and he's excited for everyone to see what they have planned.

Wow this is awesome. Idk how I missed it. Thanks.

I don't think he used the word significant. But he did reference throwing to the backs more. And they probably will use two TEs more now that they have two TEs who can play.

I don’t see any of your guesses as significant changes to the office

Two backs with misdirection/reverse action would be nice.

More quick hit run plays to keep the D honest instead of the D playing read defense against the RPO.

makes sense, as Moorhead has been gone for two years now. There was some stuff about that offense that didn't work very well and it probably took a while to phase it out. I'm thinking primarily about the weird handoffs out of the shotgun.

I hope the major change is when we have forward passes, the receiver will catch the ball, thus making the play call a success.

Huge improvement, good thinking, coach!!

I was thinking more 2 RB sets with the abundance of talent at that position and a relatively inexperienced QB.

taking a page from Michigan?

Agreed. A lot of the shortcomings of the system were covered up by the individual talent of guys like Barkley and Mcsorley. Time to evolve this thing into something that is more multiple. Clifford is cerebral enough to handle it.

My hope is more dedicated runs which will help the Oline fire off the ball drive block. And stop the looking to the sideline stuff after everyone is lined up. It really kills momentum
Huh? An RPO doesn’t prevent the OL from doing their job. It’s not how they block, the problem is who they block

Rahne is going to be in the booth. Unless I just thought I read that. That's change.

There are a lot of areas for improvement in my opinion, and I'm hoping for all of them:
  1. No more look to the sidelines crap.
  2. Zone blocking.
  3. Two back sets. We need to get all of them playing time if we want them to stay.
  4. QB under center for short yardage with 2 back sets.
  5. Screen plays thrown to the running backs, again, aided by 2 back sets.
  6. More use of intermediate throws over the middle. We now have taller QBs where that should be easier, with some real speedsters (e.g., Hamler) and at least one really good tight end.
Keys to much of this will be running back play. Can they block? Also key, obviously, is OL play. Can they block?

Receivers now instructed to catch the ball. No more "knock it down!"

Derek Fox would have loved this new era.

I'd love to see motion. Just moving 1 guy can really reveal what defensive coverage they are in.

Control the ball, control the game, win the game.

"We want the ball and the wind".
