My take is that coach Franklin is taking a more aggressive position in processing players who have little or no shot at being major contributors. This is a positive thing for the PSU program and in some cases good for the players to move on with their life’s mission.

Other gopsusports roster observations:

- Townley is back on roster and listed as a DE. Wasn't he practicing and playing DT this past season? Also, no height and weight listed - must not have checked on how he was eating when he was in the portal......

- True freshmen Payne, Tracy and Washington are listed as DB's. Position seemed to be going to be determined in Spring practice.

- Only 6 DT's listed, with the 7th coming this summer, Blanding the true freshman. Light on numbers to get through a season - a likely addition coming in the portal.

Pushing players off the team in this fashion is rarely a positive. It should be beneath us. The only time it is an acceptable process is AFTER the player has graduated or stopped seeking a degree.

Who said a player was pushed off the team? One random message board poster just suggested this on a whim on a Saturday night, but hey let's criticize the coaches. And by the way, Paterno often told 4th year players not on the two deep to move on with their lives, aka no scholarship for year 5 remains.

He‘s had several significant injuries in high school and college requiring one or two surgeries And very well may be hanging up his cleats.
Injuries come one after another for some young athletes while others are KO'd by a single injury and others rebound from what are devastating to others. We all heal differently. If only we had a crystal ball.

Few if any of us here really understand the grind of D1 football. It's a full time commitment with academics added on. Struggling to see the field and injuries compound the task. I have no problem with roster decisions (either by player or staff) after 4 years have been honored.
Funny how some lament losing a 5th year player (would have been six) but trashed a rather useful Clifford for coming back.

It's acceptable because Franklin specifically tells a player and his parents that the standard is for every player to graduate in 3 years. i.e. he promises their parents that their son will get the support he needs to finish a degree from PSU in 3 years. The academic support to accomplish their getting a degree in 3 years is available to each player. And that deal they sign on for is basically over after 3 years, and if a player is not contributing on the field and the staff believes that player is unlikely to contribute on the field for the team that player's "contract" with the team is pretty much over. Pretty simple. It seems to be a great plan that works for all parties involved. I don't understand why a player would want to stay on the team when the coaches have told him that he has pretty much zero chance of seeing the field if he stays for a 4th year.

But most of the players leaving, even Katchir, have gotten some playing time over their PSU careers. So the decisions that go into most players staying or leaving seem to be less cut and dried than a strict 3 year plan.......

Peggy Pigeon: "processing players is bad."

Also PP: "we can't beat OSU because Franklin is a bad coach. Pegs, holes, blah blah blah."
