It is inexcusable and unexplainable as to why he has a scholarship to play college football. I've watched college football for over 30 years, i've never seen a LB so consistently run himself out of the play and fail to fill his gap assignment. It's almost like he's afraid to be in the play. He can't shed blocks, he takes bad pursuit angles, when he does accidentally get close he whiffs on tackles. Let's start with the weakest link of all then go from there.

It is another example of what I call the Franklin Switcharoo. Kid was a safety in High School, huge difference in the flow of the game. We also currently have 2 Classic MLB playing DE.

I'd be surprised if he is on the roster next Fall. They'll be some transfers announced in the coming weeks, and possibly a couple more after Spring practice concludes......

But the numbers are thin at LB so PSU likely needs a portal player that can make plays and is ready to go for the Fall.......

Put Fisher on the speed and weight loss regimen and put him back at MLB. Dude looks lost at DE and he is a player.

The issue with PSU is not the defense. In case you didn’t notice, our DC just got paid 5 million a year to lead a pretty solid program.

The offense has been crap for most of Franklin’s tenure, which is his area of expertise allegedly. The guy is on his 5th OC already. I do still think that MY is a very good coach and a quality hire, but Franklin is quickly losing confidence that he can build the right staff and get the right personnel to be good consistently on offense.

If he is on the team, he should focus on special teams... I always felt he was given a scholarship to help get Zach Kuntz on board.

This team has alot of problems it needs to address. I just figured i'd start with the most glaring one. It was the easiest.

And yet I read many threads earlier this year wondering why Katshir wasn’t playing. We need football players not athletes was the rational. Just another example of the guy on the bench is always better crowd having no clue

About 5 years ago I went to a West Point game and we met up with my buddies' son in the big mess hall. We were seated at a table with a bunch of guys on the Army Sprint team who were heading to a game vs. Coast Guard.

I chatted up one dude from the Harrisburg area who played football vs both Katshir and Micah in high school and was a teammate of one of them for awhile. He raved about Parsons but expressed doubt about Katshir as a Big 10 level player. At the time I figured any comparison to Micah was unfair...and that 45 would find a place. Didn't really work out that way for him...but he did have on big qb hurry/near sack vs Arkansas.

Whatever happens he chose us over a multitude of offers. I think he had been injured early...maybe that has impacted his performance. In any case we should wish him well in whatever lies ahead and remember that if he is on the field that he is our best option at the time...much like Tom Williams, Gino Capone and others at LB who haven't been the difference makers we hoped. He has bled more Blue than most of us did while at State. If we didn't get him he'd be a top rated PA guy that got away and some would complain about that.

I think every player that chooses PSU should get the benefit of support just as I believe what should be shoe ins deserve what ever they get when they go elsewhere. My issue with Charlie is he is not a B1G LB and needs to spend the off season getting bigger and learning how to play the position.

Well said.

As I remember his was looked at as a very good athlete who played Safety in high school and would develop into a LB at PSU.

Hope he has gotten or is on track to get his degree. If he transfers to a place he could get onto the field for his 5 year, he might end up with an MBA or other graduate degree.

But at this point, for all we know, he may start at LB for PSU next year even though he hasn't shown much at PSU so far......

I think he still has potential but it needs to come big time this spring. He better hit the weightroom and film room like never before in his life.

Went back and watched some of his play and didn't think it was that bad. Most times he had lineman on him, sometimes two, It was just a highlight video though. I did see 40 retreating backwards on the one touchdown that was obvious run blocking, and 0 looks very slow . Not many linebackers are going to be effective when offensive lineman get a hold of them. I seen more of a problem with the DT's getting pushed around, and not keeping the OL off the linebackers. But they are mostly young and inexperienced.

I'll be the first to say that in limited action I thought he looked good this year. He was always around the ball. Some take that to mean fans (myself included) are saying he should always be a starter no matter how he performs. That isn't the case. We've seen enough crappy LB play this year that I don't think Katshir's performance stands out or was unexpected given all the moving parts for this game.

thank you Mrs. Katshir

Anyone who has watched him play and has a sliver of football knowledge can only come to one conclusion--he's a garbage football player. Period.

Classy post about a guy who has worked through multiple injuries. And your extensive football knowledge has led you to the conclusion that our biggest issue is the 2nd or 3rd string LB?

I bumped into Charlie coming out of the Lasch building last summer and he said he had just gotten cleared to begin practicing again after rehabbing a season ending injury he had in 2020. He's had a lot of injuries throughout his football career including a couple of torn labrums and and a leg injury. One has to wonder how the injuries might have affected his athletic abilities and effectiveness. He's from an athletic family and his father, mother, and brother were all collegiate athletes. As an aside, his dad is a lawyer and the owner of a business unelated to the legal profession.

The number of players recruited to be A and end up as B is enormous everywhere.
Joe converted a lot of high school fullback to line backer.

Name 5 that have worked in the JF era. If you can that is .5 per year of the changes that were difference makers.

Katshir went full Geno Capone on us Saturday

that was an utter shidshow

So an unnamed dude on a message board is a better evaluator of talent? Better than, I don’t know, Brent Pry? Someone let Brent know Booooyah from BWI disagrees with him and is a better evaluator of talent. Maybe he’ll hire you.

Posts like this make people look like idiots.

I’m not in the business of evaluating LBs but I’ll take Brent’s judgment over yours. Just a guess but a player who can play all 3 positions in a backup role is hugely valuable to a college football team.

I think Katshir looks athletic but he does not seem to make any plays. He seemed to run into blocks. But that is probably why he barely played this year. But how can fans be upset at a guy who has barely played LB not making plays in his first significant action? Would Buddin and King have been better? I am not sure. But I did watch a few minutes of the Auburn Whiteout game this weekend. And watching Brooks, Mustipher, Tangelo, etc. play it is just not fair to see what we saw on Saturday and complain about Penn State's defense. The 2nd and 3rd stringers were 2nd and 3rd stringers for a reason.

Brown was our best 'linebacker' on Saturday....missing Brooks and a little of Smith, and forcing Jacobs to switch sides and assume a leadership role was a little too much for the inexperienced and shallow LB crew. I was surprised the coaches didn't commit a safety to holding the edges on the QB and RBs in the second half.

He reminds me of Tom Williams and Dave Benfatti...D3 Level talent.

Isn’t it funny we have quite a few players on this team that don’t know what position their playing really it’s been this way for the last couple of years

That is effing uncalled for. Do you have any sense of propriety? Trashing a kid who has done nothing to deserve the least bit of ridicule should be beneath any adult, and those who engage in it are beneath contempt.

Some have worked out and as others have pointed out a lot of school do it....but dang I have trouble getting over some of the moves we make.

Trent Gordon played about 50% at CB in the 2019 Cotton Bowl, moved to S that off season and was gone shortly after.

Marquis Wilson played about 40% of that game and we really haven't heard from him since.

Zuriah Fisher and Nick Tarburton, to me, were run stuffing MLB that we moved to DE.....seems after 5 years (and injuries) that Tarburton might finally be servicable.

Caden Wallace would be an All Big Ten G, Tengwell should have been a Freshman All American G this year.

Hell, even Parsons to a point....guy would have been a super freak edge rusher from day one but had to play behind Koa ****ing Farmer learning a new position for a year.

I love the school, the players, and the staff but damn if some of the decisions don't have me head scratchin!!!!

Every time I see this guy's name in print, I read it as "Katshit." And I don't even own any cats. Must be some kind of subconscious thing.

Three of his oc are head coaches.
The other went back to Minnesota as oc.
The Bradley days have been over for a long time money and opportunity rule

Moorhead, Rahne…..?

Well at least he has a name that sounds like a PSU LB of the glory days in the 70's and 80's. So he has that going for him......which is nice.
