Chase Young gets 2 games

As was pretty much expected, he'll be back for our game vs. tOSU. We'd best be prepared to deal with him.

"Young's suspension comes after he accepted an impermissible loan last year from what Young described as a “family friend” who he had known since the summer before his freshman year at Ohio State. Although he repaid the loan in full, the loan was still considered to be an extra benefit by NCAA rules."

"family friend"...LULZ.

Did it ever come out who the "family friend" was who gave him the loan? I still find it it odd that he met this person for the 1st time during the summer before he entered tOSU. I'd bet he enrolled during summer semester so that makes me suspicious too.

Chase Young should have never been suspended "indefinitely" by the NCAA in the first place so I'm good the NCAA reinstated him. The kid made a mistake and learned his lesson.

Besides that... when we beat OSU I don't want any doubters!

The NCAA is a JOKE for suspending him "indefinitely" in the first place. What did Young do? He borrowed money from a family friend to fly his girlfriend to the Rose Bowl back in January, then paid the loan back over the summer.

You're clueless. Stick to hockey.

Making no comment on what he did or the penalty, but only on the fact that he will play:

Good, because IF PSU somehow wins, his presence on the field will be taken into consideration, as it would if he was absent.

One week ago, there was no reason to believe that he wouldn't play in the game, so in that sense nothing has changed.

His presence in the game poses a significant challenge, but isn't that the fun of football, especially high-level football? :)

All Ohio State Boosters are Family.

What were the loan repayment requirements? Avg 2 sacks per game?

I would be interested to know the girlfriend’s financial situation and whether or not she really needed to be flown out to the game.
Somebody dig around through social media and the like and figure this out.

It isn't that he's back for our game, it's that he gets to practice while "suspended" and will be fresher and faster than ever. I guess it's better to play them at full strength but.... something about this and the timing leaves me wondering if osu planned it exactly this way (last thing they needed was it happening just before games with us and um).

His first sack will be a record at osu and the place will go batshit crazy.

Guess we'll be getting their best. Hope we have all of our guys.

Makes no difference in CFP hopes of PSU whether he plays or not. Win out and PSU is in. It is more difficult with him playing, obviously, but has no impact on the CFP oucome.

Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said:
I also want to commend Chase Young and let him know how proud we are of him. He took responsibility for his actions, cooperated throughout the process and understood and accepted that there would be consequences. He’s a team captain and a leader and most importantly, a Buckeye. He wanted nothing more than an opportunity to play again and we’re pleased that he’ll get that chance.

Translated to normal human speech:

"We're so proud of you for accepting illegal payments and then only getting busted for MD and rutgers! By accepting the illegal payments, you are forever a $uckeye!"

"I want to thank and express my sincere gratitude to university staff members who worked so diligently and expertly to learn and understand the facts, and then to report these facts to the NCAA as part of our request to have Chase reinstated," Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in a prepared statement. "This is the example of the culture of compliance we have at Ohio State. I also want to commend Chase Young and let him know how proud we are of him. He took responsibility for his actions, cooperated throughout the process and understood and accepted that there would be consequences."

Whatever. The way CFB is changing this is going to be the norm.

Players will be making money and getting things from agents, boosters, etc. soon enough legally.
So we might as well start it 2 years early for one player being he's the best at his position in college football?

If it's against the rules, it's against the rules.

If fans don't realize what they are watching now, why do you think they will suddenly become "enlightened"?

One thing that is crystal clear... the ability of Fan Boys to believe what they want to believe about "their team" - no matter how incredibly ridiculous - is infinite.
I guess I am naive. I look at PSU players as students representing PSU not men hired to play for the franchise. I am close to being as out on NCAA as NFL.

I can't remember the year, but didn't Buckeye QB Troy Smith get caught taking cash and was forced to sit out 1 game ... only to return for the game against Texas?

Somehow, whenever a Buckeye player gets caught cheating/breaking rules, it never seems to impact his eligibility to play in big games. The NCAA and Big Ten will even allow punishment to defer to the next season to allow the guys to play in a big game.

It does pay to have members of a university sitting on influential committees within the NCAA.
