LOL, Cultists. First, Cheeto wanted to use a 1798 statute (the Alien Enemies Act) to deport Venezuelans to an El Salvadorian prison. Boasberg quite properly said nyet to that, as the Alien Enemies Act requires that the U.S. be at war with another country in order for the president to have the power of summary deportation. And Boasberg was upheld on appeal by the D.C. Court of Appeals. Funny that federal judges insist on people within the territorial limits of the United States being afforded due process rights. Who woulda thunk it?
Now, Mike Waltz's screwup has brought public attention to the fact that Trump and his minions have been using the Signal Messenger app, and its auto-delete feature, to discuss and plan strategy, in violation of the Federal Records Act ("FRA"). Watchdog group American Oversight filed suit to enforce the provisions of the FRA, and the case was assigned to (guess who?) Judge Boasberg. The Honorable Judge Boasberg promptly imposed a temporary restraining order on these miscreants, and has ordered them to preserve records of their texts, e-mails, etc. for his future review. The Judge also ordered them to report back to him by Monday on steps taken to comply with his order.
Poor Cheeto. He has called for Boasberg and other federal judges to be impeached. He must be ready to stroke out at this point. Perhaps he should cease and desist with the extra-legal schemes, in which event he will be far less likely to cross swords with the federal judiciary.
