been reading a lot since Sunday about our decommit Parsons. I think last year our team chemistry played a big part in our never quit attitude. I've read our players comments about Parsons, most say he Ned's to take his time, make the right choice for him. Basically saying we are a family, and he will realize this is the best place for him. I think Parsons is the best athlete from Pa since Lavar.
Let the kid make a decision, and let's back off the bashing. If he comes great, if not we move on. I trust CJF and our team here.

Well, maybe. One correction for sure because Saquon Barkley is from PA.

Black shoes
Basic blues
No names
All game!

Our players get it and buy into it because that's who "we are" . Some kids get it, most don't.

Here is what makes Saquon beyond special

-He has amazing natural talent and still outworks his competition
-He remains humble and is constantly re-evaluating his game looking for ways to improve it
-He is team first and does anything necessary and pushes to make those around him better
-He is about the best ambassador you could ask for and does everything with full effort : classroom, community service, treats people and fans respectfully

There is no ceiling for Saquon because of these character traits and his talent.

Now I would love to see Parsons recommit and take his amazing talent and learn from what Saquon has done a bit, but that is up to him.

I don't worry too much about this stuff. Let's be real. No matter what class you have, there are some highly touted players that simply never make it. I got a good wakeup call on that one back when there was that book about the class Tony Sacca was in. It did not go they way many players and fans thought it would go. Some of the most highly touted guys never played or played only a little. That's called life.

Agree. On a side note, tOSU got a verbal from the top rated DE in the East. A kids from GA. Kid committed yesterday. Wonder if tOSU played there 'only room for one' card.

Prob a better chance that Urb sold it as "Parsons is going to be on board, come join him as the best frosh DE duo ever."

Don't you mean "that's on him"?
After all, you referenced "Say Say" in your post...... the man from Whitehall

Look, if Micah wants to take all 5 of his official visits and post "top team" lists he is considering, etc..., he shouldn't publicly state that he is verbally-committed to a team and ask that team to RESERVE and GUARANTEE a scholarship for him. Maybe we are his "favorite" team, but an "early verbal commitment" is a bit more than that - you are asking the other party to "verbally commit" to hold and "guarantee" a scholarship for you on LOI Day. If CJF told him that he still loves him as a player, but he can no longer "guarantee" and "reserve" a 2018 Scholarship on LOI based on Micah's recent public statements including internet posting about not having made a choice yet and a still "open" recruitment, than CJF did the right thing - he told Micah that he considered his "commitment" to no longer exist based on Micah's explicit statements. Doesn't mean that CJF doesn't like him anymore......won't contact him......won't recruit him.....possibly even give him an offer down the road.....etc... Simply means that CJF is notifying him that he no longer believes he has a "commitment" to reserve and guarantee a SCHOLARSHIP in the 2018 Class.

Chemistry and teamwork go a long ways in making 3 stars play like 4 stars, and 4 stars play like 5 stars. It's all about meshing.

Seriously, so many of you wusses have turned this into high ranked players that didn't pan out. That is not the topic. All it does is point out your insecurity. These are not seasoned professionals we are talking about and it's a big decision at this stage in their lives... unless your position is that it doesn't matter where any player goes. CJF asked the kid to be committed or not.... that is what CJF did and the kid is still looking around, his right and prerogative. The implications that he may not pan out are pure BS.... that is the case with every recruit, every where.

Mostly agree, but if we are being real, there is no such thing as RESERVE and GUARANTEE a schollie. Unofficially, sure, coaches and players keep tabs on the big board, but just as kids reconsider their commitment, so do programs. Bleich comes to mind as well as many other kids at PSU and around the country.

Agreed, some people are attempting to turn this into a major league "Broadway Drama", when it is ridiculously straightforward. CJF didn't say he was no longer interest or that PSU wouldn't continue recruiting him....the only thing CJF did was notify him that his commitment to absolutely guarantee a Scholarship for the 2018 Class no longer existed based on Micah announcing the re-opening his recruitment via "top school" lists, etc...(you only have one program that you're interested in when you are actually "verbally committed" to that program and have asked them to earmark a 2018 Scholarship with your name on it).

Not my point. The point is not to be that concerned about what school choices a kid makes. If a kid chooses State, great. If he doesn't, best of luck to him.

However, from Penn State's perspective (not the kid's), one player will generally not be the savior of a program, as sometimes they work out--but sometimes they don't.

When i was in school the poster boy for this was: Quintis McDonald

Yes. It's a team game. And the team is not just 22 people, its the the 60 or so who play meaningful snaps during the season, plus the 40 or 50 who train and practice with them.

Let's not forget, Penn State had Lavar and Courtney Brown on the SAME DEFENSE in the late 1990s and never accomplished what James Franklin's kids accomplished last year.

Football is a weakest-link-in-the-chain kind of game. That 1999 team was outstanding in places, but in a couple of key places they were a little short athletically, and Arrington and Brown couldn't make up for that.

So...it's just another reason not to get all worked up over an individual player. Whether or not PSU is contending for the B1G 2-3 years from now will depend on about 100 people -- and the DE slot that Parsons might or might not end up in is just one of those 100.

I don't follow recruiting closely because until they sign on the dotted line it doesn't mean much. There is plenty of time to pay attention after a kid is actually on board. I trust the staff to know what they are doing.

I can't even remotely figure out what half these idiots think CJF and Staff are supposed to do about a 17 year old kid changing his mind and deciding he is going to announce that he is "open" to recruitment by any program reversing his earlier public announcement that he had already made a decision and was completely committed to PSU and requested that they reserve, guarantee and earmark a Scholarship for him in the 2018 Class. The only party who has control of these things is Micah - if he wants to announce that he has "re-opened" his recruitment (i.e., rescinded his earlier "verbal commitment" announcement), that's fine, but it also evaporates the "quid pro quo" on PSU's side, which is, I'm sure, what CJF informed him of...

I did not say it was....
But with others it is obviously so.

I agree Saquon has turned into a great great player but he was not as highly rated coming out of high school as Micah Parsons. Saquon was a four star but on the other hand I think he decommitted from Rutgers to sign at PSU. I think a lot of the bigger schools wished they recruit him a little harder.

Looks like the 1st round of the NFL draft provided more evidence of team chemistry as O$U (3), UM (2) and Wisconsin (2) all had multiple players drafted. Meanwhile, a program with zero first (and possibly second) rounders has the B1G Championship trophy in their trophy case! Success With Honor!!

As I recall, Lavar Arrington was one of the top high school prospects in the nation. IIRC, Lavar committed early and without drama. He has been a great ambassador for the Penn State program ever since. So, low-drama, high-level recruits do exist. They just tend to be unicorns in today's society.
